Looks like he still has his chest wing...which is fine by me, as Astrotrain's G1 cartoon chest design was so very boring...

I don't think this guy is MP scale X. The DX9 one is.

Still much taller than Generations Blitzwing

I guess it could work with Hasbro Blitzwing. I just really hate that chest wing. There's a reason the animators left it out of the G1 cartoon...it looked stupid. (At least in my opinion)

I *think* the chest wing can be tucked in.

I know it is in the chest for the Train mode, and I have seen a custom where it is hidden.

Can someone that has him confirm??

Not with it properly transformed. The inner body workings are kind of precise. Tucking the wing is just kind of a "close enough" fan mode thing. If I remember right, his body would fall apart if bumped like that.

I still think the original colors look better, but I did pre-order this.

For the record, this guy looks fantastic next to TW Megatron. Astrotrain should be the largest of the Decepticon triple changers and this pulls it off.

It is however, too small for an MP display.

But only TFsource has it!!! and it's limited! like their deluxe insecticons! which sold out right away.... until it didn't and then they couldn't get rid of it... and then they sold stock to BBTS... and then.. so BBTS will be carrying this! good call

Is this finally my classics Astrotrain or do I wait for a little longer for another attempt.....that chest fin is just a turn off and it's been the hardest thing to get past.

now that looks so much better. Is there anybody with the white version that can confirm this can be done without any modding ?

He modded that one to remove a piece.

The fin will set in the body, however, a folding bar will have to be left outside and it isn't rigid enough to remain close to the body.

Basically, chest fin goes in, chest penis flops out.

So I'm sure you already know about DX9's Chigurh, which is really too tall for a Classics collection and also has the chest fin. There's also Machine Boy's attempt, but he also has a chest fin.

Maybe waiting is best for you.

Damn so disappointing. But thanks, you saved me some money. Why is every 3rd party company so obsessed with that damn chest fin ? I know its vintage toy accurate, but isnt CHUG supposed to be all about giving characters a more cartoon accurate look ? I always felt the G1 cartoon animators took certain liberties when the toy looked too "toyish" to look cool in the cartoon. Ironhides toy would be the prime example. Astrotrains chest fin and omega supremes cockpit head with no face are other good examples where the animators righted some toy wrongs.

Slavishly like MP? No. C/G is a modern update.

Agreed.

X, you know I'm as considered a Classics collector as you are and even I am not trying to match the cartoon exactly.

Some updates or blending of the toy and cartoon are not only acceptable but encouraged.

Hell, IDW has been so influential that some of their design choices have influenced me more than the cartoon. Astrotrain is a good example. Cartoon Astrotrain is dumb as hell. IDW Astrotrain is a cool beast.

All these gripes about a chest shield when it seems strange to buy a figure with a badass train mode and a cool shuttle mode only to display it in generic robot mode. pffft.

I would buy it if it wasn't $120 and didn't seem like such a finicky thing to transform (I watched video reviews of the existing black & white version and it seems exceptionally finicky).

I could see maybe for $70-80. But from everything I've seen in the month or so that I've been collecting, prices generally only maintain or go up for figures, except in rare circumstances of overstock that needs to be cleared out. So I've just crossed it off my list and will pretend it doesn't exist so I don't desire it. =;

Honestly, Astrotrain's cartoon robot mode sucked. He looked like a generic box man with basically no distinguishing features whatsoever. The chest wing adds some character to his design. And that's not even touching on the fact his cartoon colour scheme was an error caused by the production team getting photos of a prototype instead of the final figure.

Yup.

People always remember the 86 movie scene with Astrotrain and I'm all like, "What about ZONE DEFENSE?"

Astrotrain thought he could beat Megatron with an army of Earth trains. He is dumber than a 1950's comic book villain.
