While it looks better than the Takara version, i will support official product when i have the choice, so this one is not for me.
It's good for collectors that there is a choice though.
I do think FT should have chosen a more obscure character than Hot Rod.

Hmmm.

Hmmmmm.

"Does it come with a Prime trailer/weapons platform?" is my reaction. Also, is there a scheduled release date? Seems like every third party company comes out with their own version of Hot Rod, but few actually finish it. If it's coming out soon, I'd probably wait and see how it compares to the official MP Rod. If it has a Prime trailer, that's a plus.

However, if it turns out to be more of a Classics scale version, that'd pique my interest even more. Having a better-articulated Classics Rod would be cool; having a better-articulated Classics Rod with a Prime trailer would be even better.

Anyway, that's an awful lot of speculation on my part.

Given FT's resumé so far, this will in the MP line

I like the look of this one. It reminds me a lot of the G1 toy, which I think is awesome!

I don't see much difference from MP-28, other than the chest/waist piece is actually molded correctly.
And is it just me, or is FT having bad timing with this as well as their release of the Quakewave reissue?

Wheels are bigger, and it looks like they might be cheating on the hood/chest. Unless the hood piece on the bottom of the car is something that comes up and around for the hated G1 Cybertronian RV mode. ;)

And I couldn't agree more on the timing. There are a few 3P products that surprise me on the timing with official product coming out...

I like the Takara version over FT's. That's a first for me. The more bubblish shape of the cab in alt mode for FT's is one of the main detractors.

I don't think it will, this is supposed to just be Hot Rod/Rodimus, not Rodimus Prime.

FT only does MP-scaled figures. Although if they ever release a scaled-down version of their Quakewave, he's going in my Classics collection.

This harkens back to FT's humble beginnings, where they were going to release Soundwave until Takara announced their intentions to release it. I already have the first Quakewave, but would've gotten the new toon accurate coloring version if not for Takara announcing their own version. But with Galvatron and Hot Rod/Rodimus... yeah, bad timing.

I had a dream last night where a third party made an upscaled MP Tracks in orange, then made an add-on to make it into a Corvette Space Winnebago. Reprolabels released a one-sticker upgrade set for it that was just the hood flames, which were a mash-up of the Rodimus Prime and Tracks flames.

That was the extent of that dream. It was dumb.

I'd rather have that than this. This is dumber.

It's an even bigger bummer to have Rodimas fatigue before anyone has even come close to giving us an IDW version. :(
