Evila Star or Chigurh?

Is Evila Star worth having? Overall his modes look more cartoon accurate to me but I'm concerned about QC. Should I go with Chigurh or Evila Star?

Neither.

Machine Boy Space Roamer is the best Astrotrain in my opinion.

I'm looking at MP scale though. Chigurh is too tall, Evila seems a little short.

Chigurgh is...not very good from what I've seen. Quite aside from his questionable aesthetic fit with the MP look, he relies on a plastic plank to make him not look awful in robot mode- a plastc plank that has to partsform for train mode and has to be completely set aside for shuttle mode.

Go for the second run of Evila Star. It does have the chest wing, but other than that it's totally on point.

Heard good and bad about them both .

I would say neither and wait for Fans Toys or someone else to get round to it for a better option .

I was all about Chigurh but that was me caught up in the hype of him being the first MP scaled AstroTrain .

stepping back and i honestly think both are poor MP figures .

I'm a big fan of Choochrigurchurchiggerbug. I prefer just "DX9's Astrotrain" when referring to it. I think it's your best bet if going for MP right now, but as others have said, if the size bugs you, just wait.

Quality on this is horrible (cell phone) but maybe this will give you some idea on the size of him:

I like the size of it a lot, but I can understand that some might not. I'm not married to the scale chart; if it looks good, good enough for me.

Eh, it's not all that bad. I'd rather have one extra partsforming bit than a compromised mess. It also does have use in shuttle mode, I think with the landing gear or something but I only messed with it once. I rarely put jet/plane/spacecraft formers in a configuration with landing gear down.

Here's a recent image I took of Devil Star (Cartoon-colored Astrotrain) with a few MP figures.

IMG_4375.JPG

Size-wise, I think he fits in pretty well. On this particular figure, there's an issue with his right wing being loose and not being able to stay in place on it's own. The wings stay up from friction, but for some reason the left one is more stable than the right. I managed to keep the wing up for this shoot.

I'm not sure if I'll keep him on the MP shelf or not. But as this is your declared need, I would think maybe Chigurh would be better, or possibly wait for an official version (yeah, maybe that's a bit out there).

Bobby Skullface had the same problem with the figure he reviewed. Sounds like it may well be a manufacturing flaw.

I've seen another review with that problem, so yes.

I needed to come back and comment on this previous post of mine, because it is incorrect. The part in question indeed does not have a place to go in shuttle mode, I was thinking of the gun which folds up to become landing gear.

The part DOES have a place to go - with the gun it forms a display stand for the shuttle.

Chigurh for an MP display, although he is overly detailed for the current MP styling.

The Toyworld Astrotrain is more properly Classics sized. The original white one is pure IDW, the TFsource exclusive is not very accurate to anything, while the BBTS version is anime colored.

BBTS's version went for preorder the day after TFSource's version arrived at my house. Pissed me off no end. I refuse to spend another $100 on another Astrotrain.

Thanks for pointing that out! I had no idea. It also took two google searches just to find a tiny image of how to configure it that way, so doesn't look like this is well known. I don't remember it in the instructions (though that doesn't mean it isn't in there).

RE: TW-06C (the BBTS version) - oh man, I did NOT realize that was a new color scheme. Or a new head. Not enough change for me to dip in even with the reduced price, but I just had a knee-jerk feeling that I would've been happier with 06C than 06B.

Here's to waiting for a Titan Wars recolor of Sentinel Prime. Or Takara to announce their first MP triple changer.

At this point, I'm just waiting for the Sentinel Prime => Astrotrain redeco. But that's more Generations scale than anything.

In case some people wanted more scale photos:

I spent a lot of time in the Botcave tonight, taking pics of Evila Star with a bunch of other bots and transforming him took as much time if not more than transforming all of the other bots from vehicle to robot mode (I have everyone transformed in vehicle to save space in boxes). And its not because he is hard, he is just really finicky. Pieces will pop off and not at a joint, but at the actual pin, which is terrifying. I forgot how much time he took. Well, I did it, and here is an intensive look at how he scales with a ton of toys. You will notice that he scales well with most anything depending on how you view astrotrain. If he is a big Brute, then he works in classics, especially with the recent leader class figures. If you see him as smaller than Megatron, like the size of a seeker, then he is perfect with MPs. And if he is a brute then he scales well with MP Grimlock. Also, he looks gorgeous standing next to Universe Onslaught. Anyways, here you go!

Thanks for that! I'm still convinced he's more MP scale than Classics.

He's too tall. He's also too short for Masterpiece though.

Not really. He is as tall as starscream. Is Asrotrain supposed to be taller than a seeker?

By the way, he does scale really well with the Leader Seekers and Leader Megatron. They are of the same scale.

It seems to tall for a Classics collection, unless you're going to go Leader class for Megatron, the 3 main Seekers, and Soundwave.

But I'm not one of those people.

Another look at william-james88's picture with MP Starscream makes me think he's perfect for the MP shelf now.
