Thoughts on the Reissue/KO Headmasters

As Transformers collectors, we've recently seen a rise in knockoff/reissue Headmasters on the market. The ten that have been reissued are:

Grand Maximus Spike
Fortress Maximus Spike
Lord Zarak
Black Zarak
Trizer
Loafer
Lione
Lodoni (Rodney)
Shuffler
Kirk

Obviously all of those are pretty desirable for HM fans. The Japanese exclusives (Trizer, Loafer, Lione, Rodney, Shuffler and Kirk) can fetch some crazy prices.

While these KOs first surfaced in December of 2009 (Italian seller trying to scam people on eBay), they have picked up steam in the last month. Why? Mainly due to the make in China offering more 10 piece giftsets for sale on iOffer. In addition, he seems to have a friend on eBay, fantasy-toys, listing these 10 piece giftsets.

I, for one, am thrilled to see these made more readily available to the fans. However, I'm worried there might become rampant scamming. While the Japanese exclusive KOs are easy to differentiate from the originals (no trademark stamp underneath the chin of the head mode), the other 4 are a little trickier. I could see sellers easily fooling uninformed buyers.

What does everyone else think of this influx of KO Headmasters?

I think it's awesome and I have 4 of those originals.

I am really happy to grab a white set as well. Meow! I mean cool.

Hmmm, it would seem this thread is more appropriate for the new subforum now: KOs and 3rd Party items.

As for using iOffer, I haven't heard too many complaints. If anything, I have heard more problems from the eBay seller. A lot of the giftset boxes have arrived rather damaged (figures ok though).

Moved. And I used ioffer before. All you need to do is use your Paypal to pay and you should be fine.

No problems by the way. I currently have an offer out for a set of 6 white and the 10 colored, just waiting for the seller's response.

Ryan is working on something for when his set(s) arrive. Seibertron.com treatment...

I know it's no just the heads, but a KO or Reissue Fort Max would be SWWEEEET. We all know it's not gonna be release by Hasbro, unless it's through HTS as an "Adult Collectable". Either way, I'd hit that pre-order link in a heartbeat!

That's great to hear! I'm glad he was able to order a set. We have been fortunate that the iOffer seller seems to have quite a few left. He's slowly been adding more to his supply.

One of my friends bought one at Botcon so I only got pictures of the box set itself.

I will post the picture I took of the box art when I get home from work.

Hey Tirade, I had seen you on ioffer a few weeks back before I made my purchase of the Headmasters on ioffer. Before I saw you here, I had noticed you bought a Headmasters set & I was going to ask you to let me know what the quality was like only cuz you live like 20 minutes from me  So what's the quality like compared to the regular g1 Headmasters?

Well, I can tell you I bought both the white and colored Shufflers (elephant) a few months ago, and they are amazing quality. As good as the originals.

Damn good to know. If I had the extra dough I would have also bought the white versions as well. I couldn't even buy 2 sets of the Headmasters, oh well. Hopefully those same guys decide to also remake the 3 exclusive Japanese powermasters.

Now that's cool looking. So far I like. Even if the colors wind up being slightly off, I'd buy it in a heartbeat if the price is right.

The guy from ioffer.com will cut you a deal. If you buy one set he's letting them go for $100 shipped to the states (the cheapest I've seen for one set). If you buy 2 sets I've seen him selling them to guys for $180 shippped to the states. You can see all the transactions hes made so you can figure out the cheapest price hes willing to sell the sets for. So like the cliche goes, the more you buy them more you save.

$10 per for some previously uber hard to find molds, heads, to me is a bargain. Especially since the quality is as good as, or better than the originals.

I agree. That's the way I was looking at it especially where it's going to cost me $200+ for 1 loose original. $100 for 10 Headmasters plus cool packaging and box artwork where 8 of the figures I will probably never own is a bargain for my wallet and my collection.

The only thing is that $220 + shipping for the 6 ultra rare white Headmasters is beyond my current Transformers budget. Although it's still a good deal I'll definitely have to wait for the price to drop for that set.

I'm still too busy admiring them all in the box. I'm more of a MISB collector, so they will probably stay in the box until I happen to get another set. Here is a review for you until Seibertron gets one up:

The quality really is top notch.

I would also have to agree. Ten dollars per HM is a bargain you won't see for a long time. The seller is offering those sets for wholesale prices. You also have to factor in the cost of all of those HMs if they were originals. The 6 Japanese singles could run you $1200-$1600. The other 4 could easily go for around $400-500 total. So keep that in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase this set.

I'm also a MISB collector but this will be one of those extremely rare occasions where I will open the box up. The same goes for the Impossible Toys Arcee that I have yet to order.

Heh, I have been tempted to take the HMs out, but they look so nice in the box. I'm one of those guys that ends up buying 2 of everying (or sometimes more). One for play and the other for display.

I also tend to do that but unfortunately I too stretched right now. I went to the tfw2005 link and I was impressed with those side by side comparison pics. It left me =P~.
I cannot wait for my set to arrive. I noticed one of the guys on the forum received an all black edition of one of the Headmaster exclusives cuz he and some friends bought their box sets together. I can see it right now, repaints galore.
