While looking around their site I noticed the new heads on the Combaticons... Anyone know what this is about?

Look no further than Classics Grimlock, and Energon Treadshot.

That was my idea! :BOOM:

I kid... partly. I did have the idea of replacing onslaught's head with either grimlock's or a GM striker, but ultimately I'd rather not have to use the necessary technique involved in removing the default noggin just to do so... plus I don't have spares of either grimmy or GMy to do so with. As for the windrazor/treadshot head for the others? Didn't really think of that myself, but then I wasn't all that big on the idea of putting new heads on either vortex or brawl. I did have the idea at some point of possibly re-casting the head off of the explorer with a few tooling alterations, but given I have yet to convince myself to acquire any casting equipment, coupled with the fact that his head may not actually fit in either of their vehicle modes, those ideas have gone to waste.

Still, looks better than using oversized KO heads.

Is there some kind of tutorial?? I tried last night and gave up because I did not want to break the toys.

Interesting. I don't think Grimlock's head works as well, but the others a great.

From what I've learned the only semi-nondestructive way to remove those rivets that hold on wheels on most transformers, and heads in this case, is to heat said rivet with a soldering iron. This makes the plastic malleable enough to pull away without causing any long term damage... from what I know.

I've never tried said technique for several reasons. For one, using a soldering iron is dangerous and requires a steady hand... which I don't normally have. Secondly we don't own one and given what I just said I'm not too keen on acquiring one. Lastly this technique does warp the plastic to accomplish from what I've seen, and even though it supposedly will settle back into shape afterward I don't care to risk that it may not.

If you must know though, the tutorial I referenced is over on Sector 70 here.

I think it works well enough, but then I got the idea from Mega-Octane's TFwiki entry. On that note, I'm still looking into the possibility of a Ruination custom made out of this set. If I can't do it myself I'd really love to see someone else do it. :D

Well enough, yes. It's just very Grimlock looking, it's hard to see it used for a different character and not think ol' Grimmy.

A Ruination custom would definitely be interesting to see. Maybe there's an ambitious customizer out there who can take up the task.
