Our fellow Transformers enthusiast over at Full Metal Hero have posted a couple of new prototype images of the delayed Slag-A-Con 2011 exclusive Vector Zeta upgrade set. The limited run resin set is meant to serve as a Powermaster style armor upgrade for Classics Optimus Prime. The set was delayed citing a problem with the prototype. Next year's Slag-A-Con exclusive will be additional upgrade parts to compliment the set. Images mirrored below.

Looks like Play-Doh. For once, I'm really not interested in a 3rd party offering.

I kinda like it, but for like 10 or maybe 20 bucks. Not what they were asking.

Still like to make it to Slag-A-Con sometime though.

When did Big lots get into the 3rd party market?

yeah, i just dont see how anyone could disgrace their classics prime with this.

My condolences to whoever bought this. Hopefully they'll improve the final mold.

the problem is that resin was used rather than plastic. I knew it would be kinda grainy like that and a chance at mold lines. Resin is okay if you intent to paint over it for models, but something as a toy it just doesn't hold up. I also worry how brittle it might be. Plastic will at least show stress marks, resin will likely just snap.

I'm okay with the design I'd just like to see someone else take a crack at it with better materials and some tweaks.

In the interest of saying something nice about a bold experiment appropriate of an exclusive limited enough that it should be a take-it-or-leave-it prospect, just think: if next year's upgrade kit ended up making this set SO awesome that we all HAD to have it..!






...then monkeys would fly out my butt and assemble the comic-accurate Straxus toy I've always wanted out of mutilated Vehicon parts rusting in my basement. Well, if this is kinda' supposed to be a version of Zeta Prime who died in in prehistory, then it may as well be a depiction that won't be missed by the survivors.

That thing is really ugly.

The head is just so awful. I can't get over how bad the head alone looks. The rest is ok if you imagine paint apps.

This is not opinion, this is fact: This thing gets worse with each new set of pictures.

First shots made everyone scratch their heads and follow up with "Not sure if..."

Second shots made it look like a terrible concept and that it wasn't fleshed out correctly. (It could be, just hasn't been.)

These shots make you take notice of the plastic's quality (and you just know this is the plastic they'll go with) and it looks extremely fragile.

Now, having to wait for another convention to make it a full set? That's...horrible. I can almost guarantee we'll hear that the project has been scrapped and people will be trying to get their money back. It'll be the Dreamwave comic sales fiasco, all over again.

I actually kinda agree with you. It's not so much the design for me but the price that they are charging for this. If it were (a lot) cheaper, I think it's still feasible. I've seen movie toys that looks worse than this.

I like it. I got to play around with one at the con and it really grew on me. I'm a little hesitant about it being made of resin, but hey, third party stuff like this is typically more for display anyway. I don't understand the violent hate going towards this set.

I actually like it.

It very much reminds me of the Headmasters look for Optimus in the Marvel run way back when. Needs a little more paint but it works.

I agree with the few that say it's not THAT bad...at least until you factor in the price. For the price, it's a piece of **** and I'd be bummin' had I dished out the cash. But price aside, it's kinda cute...

I will be buying this. I will be buying this.

In six months for under original price. I want it but the convention price was simply madness. And for something they got the first prototype of mere weeks before the con, I'll almost consider it charity.

Still, I want Powermaster Prime for my Classics. Maybe KOToys will take a stab at it...?

You can't be serious with that. That looks like crap.
