Interesting Thunderwing 3rd party voyager kit,to turn energon voyager megatron into thunderwing.

The ebay seller is selling a bunch of these on ebay. so it's not just a one shot custom. this appears to be considered a 3rd party item.

I noticed in the ebay sellers brief description that he mentions energon megatron's voyager sized wings being remolded for thunderwing.

it appears the Ultra sized super link megatron & the energon TRU exclusive 2 pack ultra sized megatron. is meant to be used for this Thunderwing conversion kit. from what I can see/read. their is a thunderwing robot front chest,head & wings that get swapped in & megatron's front chest,head & partial wings gets swapped out.

Sadly the thunderwing kit is not fully painted. so your gonna need some serious painting skills. also your gonna need to have some experience selecting the proper hobby paints,brushes & hobby shops.

Personally I think this guy selling the thunderwing voyager sized conversion kit. should have cast the plastic parts in the desired colored plastic. or gave the plastic parts a dry brush stroke or air brushed the parts. to expect buyers to hand paint these thunderwing conversion parts is asking a bit too much from the buyer. not everyone possesses customizing painting skills.

I like this 3rd party thunderwing custom. had the parts been in colored plastic. I might have been tempted to buy this set.

perhaps someone like here who posssess 3rd party skills. can contact this seller & assist him. by creating package art,package design. show him how to do colored plastic & so forth. maybe it could be a dual partnership.

Just might be interested if they do a leader-class sized version....

I asked if he has a finished version just to see what it looks like. It maybe worth it but I'm just not feeling it from the "kit."

the energon megatron toy mold did get released in both size levels,ultra & leader sized. so it can be done. i'm just not sure what experience the seller/customizer has in regards to increasing the 3rd party thunder kit parts molds to a bigger or smaller size level.

I was going to email the seller & ask him a few questions. but i got lazy & said mabe later.

IMHO,I think more people would have bought this 3rd party thunderwing kit. if the seller gave a bigger description of words. I had to guess the kit was using the energon megatron ultra sized mold by putting the brief words together into a coherent puzzle description.

I also think more pics showing off the finalized product & selling the thunderwing kit pieces in colored+factory painted on high light colors was the way to go with this.

expecting buyers to pay $60 for a un-painted kit is kinda high. personally i think paying $60 for a "painted/colored plastic" kit that only consist of the front robot chest part,the head & half the wings is kinda high. at the very least also include a few weapons & accessories like The inner smaller thunderwing robot that fits inside the pretender shell, a huge gun,matrix around a chain. Lastly this thunderwing kit is not being sold in a package with box art nor a plastic tray. so $60 seems a bit high.

I think the seller has a great idea. as many were asking for a bigger size scale thunderwing classics toy & the energon megatron mold does look a bit like thunderwing. I think another customizer could assist this seller & make this thunderwng kit more awesome. like as follows: (1) make the kit in 2 size levels,ultra & leader sized. (2) have the kit in colored plastic with factory painted on high light colors. (3) create more weapons & accesories for this kit. like a big gun,mstrix,instructions,maybe mini comic. (4)create a box with art on it & a plastic inner tray & baggies. (5)advertisemnt of this thunderwing kit on all the major TF related web sites & forums.

If you don't already have that mold to put it on good luck finding one.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I saw a Superlink Galvatron G on the secondary market (or just superlink Galvatron or two-pack version, which is what I'd want to use as a starting point, for that matter).

The only version of this mold that seems remotely abundant is leader-class Energon Megs.

I wish HasTak had made more use of this toy or would reissue it (It's probably my favorite Energon/Superlink toy by a fair margin, and is a contender with Cybertron Optimus Prime and Galaxy Force Vector Prime for my favorite Unicron Trilogy toy overall. Time has not been kind to many of those toys); it would make a more than passable Super Megatron with a bit of retooling.

IMHO,The thunderwing parts kit,is clearly for the ultra sized Energon Megatron toy colors. as 1988 Thunderwing didn't have any purple nor silver colors on his toy.IMHO,even if the seller increased the kit to leader sized,it's clearly for the energon leader MEGATRON sized toy colors. as 1988 thunderwing's toy colors didn't have any purple nor silver on it. i'm sure it might have had extremly minor highlights of maybe purple or silver but the majority colors clearly was not purple nor silver.

I was trying to say,if the seller/customizer of this 3rd party thunderwing kit knew how to increase & de-crease molds. he could make more money by offering buyers their desired size level for this kit. (1) option one the thunderwing kit is sized to fit the energon/super-link megatron/galvatron ultra sized toy mold. (2) option #2,the thunderwing kit is sized to fit the leader sized energon megatron/galvatron toy mold.

I agree,the TRU Exclusive 2 pack of the energon ultra sized megatron & deluxe energon optimus primer gift set was extremly hard to find at TRU stores when it came out. to get a set misb on ebay is extremly hard & the price tag can be higher than what some are willing to pay to get these toys. even tyring to get these 2 toys loose on ebay can be hard to find & rather exspensive to obtain.

The super-link Galvatron ultra sized toy was easy to buy from on-line retailers & ebay back in the day when it first came out,it was exspensive but easy to get on-line. right now these days,the super-link ultra sized megatron/galavatron toys can be extremly hard to find on ebay & quite exspensive in either misb or loose condition.

As far as the leader sized energon megatron/galvatron toys goes. The energon leader sized Galvatron toy loose or MIB or MISB can be extremly hard to find on the secondary market & very exspensive. i'm sure some can find one on ebay but how many are willing to pay over $100 to obtain one. thus the waiting game of trying to find one at a decent price on ebay ensures.

(2) IMHO,The majority want the energon leader sized GALVATRON toy,because the design sculpt was made for galvatron's 1986 robot design & not G-1 Megatron's. IMHO,Most TF fans think the AEC Galvatron colors look better than the AEC Megatron toy colors. (3) At one point hasbro was pratically giving away both energon leader sized megatron & leader sized optimus. by having both faction leader taped together in a value pack & selling both of them for $39.99. IMHO, so a lot of fans stocked up & hoarded both energon leader sized megatron & optimus toys. Some seperated them & sold them on ebay ASAP while others hoarded them & sold them eventually thru the years on ebay.

I one of the lucky ones I got a 99% Energon Galvatron for $25. The only thing missing was the missile. Then the person I got it from sent me the missile for free when he found it. Mind you I get many of my toys at the flea market in my area.

That seller has been added to my favourites. I've got the 2 pack Megatron and am just about willing to sacrifice him from my Energon shelves for the sake of a Thunderwing for my larger scale Classics cons. Unfortunately that will only leave the oversized leader class version of Megatron on the Energon shelf, a toy that personally I don't find nearly as satisfying as the voyager version. This will of course lead me to redouble my efforts to track down an Energon Galvatron for the Energon shelf and a SL Galvatron G for the Classics to match their mould mates....

Great looking kit that I'll be more than happy to drop 60 bucks plus shipping on.

Before going out for New Years last night, I flipped a coin (heads buy it/tails don't, best 2 out of 3) and it said to buy it but I vetoed the coin toss. That's another FP Insecticon I could get. This morning, 10 hours after the auction ended I might add, he responded to my question about pictures of a completed sample with "...my cell phone was stolen and it contained all the pics." That's too much to go on sight unseen.

I have too much to buy and too much I'm already making to get this kit on the outside chance it would be worth it. What sucks is I have a Voyager E Megatron in my parts bin from an aborted Straxus I was working on a year ago so I was completely prepared for this set.

personally i'm not that great at running to hobby shops,buying paint & using a paint brush to paint this. I'm no expert at selecting the proper hobby paint & know nothing about which paints are the best & which rank the worst.

Honestly paying $60 for the kit. then paying $10 more in paint supplies. then spending hours is not something i'm willing to do. hand painting this kit would take all the joy away from this toy. as it's always frustrating for me to paint stuff & i'm not a skilled toy painter.

Nah, you're over thinking it. You don't have to go to a hobby shop. Just go to a crafts store. Most acrylic paints are less than a dollar and you get way more than you would need. Don't worry about which brand you get, they're all basically the same so get which ever is cheapest. So pick your blue, purple, yellow and both a light and a dark grey. It'll be in the same aisle as the paints and be the same price. And you don't need any expensive brushes. They make cheap 10 brush sets for kids to use for a dollar. Also pick up an acrylic sealer. Even if you took your time and were extra careful while painting, you should have satisfactory results in an hour or two.

If you want to practice first just get an old wrestler or superhero some cheap KO from the dollar store to work on first. The most important thing is confidence. There is no paint that can't just be painted over or removed.

I contacted the seller and unfortunately he has no plans to do a Leader Class-sized version of the kit unless someone wants to commission it... was worth asking.
