Why ? if it's going to be the same size as titan why not just scrap titan it looks terrible anyway(alt mode  ) and just use this so it will actually fit the look of the MP line.

OK, so exactly how many 3rd party G1 cartoon Jetfire/Skyfires are there now? 3?

Any idea of the general size class for each? Comparison pics? Prices? Release dates?

With all of this competition, it would be good to have a rundown of the various options to help in making a decision.

I like Sky Guardian better I think...Its nice though. Feet are kinda funky and the shoulders are too smooth. With a January release I would think we would have more than renderings.

I like the size and low price. The problem is the toy looks too blocky in all modes.

The blocky parts look really bad. It literally looks like half a gallon cardboard milk cartoon blocky parts. it looks more blocky than the 1985 toy and cartoon design.

Is this toy even needed? Didn't Hasbro already create a cartoon accurate Jetfire toy in the classics toy line.

No. Not accurate enough. I have spent the better part of 28 years waiting for an accurate SKYFIRE so for me and Im sure others like me it is needed. While I have some things I would like to see improved on this offering, I appreciate the attempt and will hold off on judgement till I see the final product. It is mind boggling to me why cartoon Skyfire has not been done prior. Surely we need one or two of this character over yet another Optimus or Bumblebee?

The problem is, while not a perfect representation of cartoon Skyfire, Classics Jetfire is AWESOME! I'm not sure that there is anything that can be done, at least in a classics sense. I will repeat Blurrz' (I think, or was it Counterpunch?) sentiment. Anyone who doesn't want their Classics Jetfire can send him my way. It's still my favorite figure in all of the Classics/Generations line.

The MP Line might be the one, last hope for a cartoon accurate figure. Well, MP and these recent Third Party offerings.

I do have to disagree with the blocky critique. I always found cartoon Skyfire to be very, very blocky in appearance. Some of these renders are practically spot on! I can't wait to see prototypes and figure out how the transformation happens. I'm curious about where the arms and shoulders go in alt mode.

I guessed it was something like that. This thing looks like it follows the old Macross/Robotech Valkrie/Veritech transformation. Cool.

I like classics Jetfire just fine. I guess it would be inappropriate to have any further toys produced based on this character. Bring on more Megatrons!

I agree,The Classics Jetfire was perfection. it's only downside was it's size. If Hasbro would have made it a size or two bigger more would have liked it. Thrown in poseable fingers and it's a home run. Hasbro needs to start releasing multiple sizes of their better molds to please more camps.

I LOVE the Classics/Henkei Jetfire mold but I'm still probably going to get this. It's just a different look (and no, size isn't the only reason). In fact, I have 3 versions of that Jetfire mold (Henkei, Henkei Dark Skyfire, and the new Asia Exclusive United Jetfire) and it looks great on my classics/Generations shelf. This will probably be a standalone figure for me, representing what he looked like in the animation (and likely to remain in jet mode).

If Takara does an MP, then Takara's will be in bot mode on my MP shelf. The only hole this thing fills for me is the one wishing for a show accurate jet mode to look at.

I don't think inappropriate is the word I was going for. Maybe more along the lines of making sense? (At least from a Has/Tak perspective.) Outside of a few characters (and entirely different universes) Hasbro has very rarely produced the same character in different iterations. (Bumblebee and Optimus are the glaring exceptions.) The argument that Hasbro's focus is selling toys to kids has been hashed out so many times. But that's what has to be considered in thinking that they would put out another version of any character. Would another version of Jetfire sell? Would it sell as an Ultra or Leader class? To a few collectors, perhaps. But not so much to kids. (I think I've only seen BB, Prime, and Predaking in a size larger than Voyager recently. Oh, and Metroplex.) Those Ultra figures from the Generations line based off of Silverbolt and Powerglide shelf warmed for a very, very long time. (I picked mine up off of clearance.)

I actually count my lucky stars that we are seeing some of the characters we are, like Generations Skids. Between obtaining the trademarked names and producing something parents will buy for their kids, Hasbro has a lot influencing what and where they spend their resources.

So, like I said, Masterpiece and these third parties are likely the only places we'll see any other versions of G1 Jetfire or cartoon Skyfire. (Well, I suppose we might see a convention exclusive. Oh, wait!) Perhaps the new cartoon will have Jetfire in it and we can get another iteration that way. But, Classics? I doubt it. It's not inappropriate to wish for it. It's not inappropriate to ask for it. I do think it is highly unlikely to ever happen, though.

I could be wrong. I'm basing my opinion on Has/Tak's past history and obvious motivations. If I'm wrong, I'll take it all back. But the only times they have released another iteration of a character (that wasn't Prime, Megs, or BB) were new molds of characters that had been repaints in the past (like Scourge and Springer).

In the mean time, I will like what I see here and drool over the pics. But I don't think I will be buying at these prices and sizes.

I agree with what you are saying but would point out that these are 3rd party productions and they do have a history of stepping on each others toes a bit when it comes to releasing similar toys. I, for one, am fine with that since I like options. I would not even post such opinions in any other forum but "3rd party" because I am well aware of Hasbro's marketing strategy. A Takara release of this guy would absolutely be preferred however I wont hold my breath. As you can see by my tag, this is what I have been waiting for for 5 years now. I named myself that when threads like "who should the next masterpiece be?" started sometime after starscream IIRC....nothing yet (which boggles my mind that the people don't clamor in unison for an official MP SF, but to each his own I guess..) Because of that I am grateful to these 2 companies for their submissions. I am considering buying one of each to do my part in rewarding them but we will see...

I think where we differ here is simply you seem to prefer classics but I don't generally collect those. My shelf is 84-87 and masterpiece with a few stragglers such as Jetfire, solely for namesake (and he is pretty cool.)

For sure, collecting preferences factor in. I bet we see a Jetfire/Skyfire in the MP line, but that wouldn't stop me from buying this now, if I were inclined. (I did buy Defender long before the recent Springer release, and I do not regret it.)

I just felt bad that it seemed like you took my words to mean I thought it was inappropriate that you ask for an update/up-scaling of classics Jetfire. That certainly wasn't my intent. I just don't think that is very likely. But certainly I don't want to seem insulting to those that would wish for it. (I'm sometimes pragmatic to a fault.)

And I definitely agree with you that competition can result in some great figures. I do sometimes wish third party companies would do a little less of that and fill a few more gaps, but that's probably my wallet talking. For the MP collectors, I can see Skyfire, among others, as being a character that needs to be filled. For me as a Classics/Generations collector, I think Voyager Jetfire is fine and I'd prefer to see some other characters get some love.

Still, that won't stop me from appreciating these Skyfire options. :D

They have really cleaned up the design on this guy.

The head is still disproportionately small, and I don't like the crossbar around the waist, but overall I think this improved from the earlier renders.

Um....Hasbro Generations Leader Jetfire! (From news today!) I think these guys definitely need to move. QUICKLY!

[Edit] I had to look back and see this was the right thread. GiveMeSkyfire, I may end up eating my words based on the announcement today. Unless, of course, it's a repaint of RotF Jetfire...Image
