So my Hypernovae is defective...advice?????

Well, I placed my order on tfsource (order #82152) on Friday (November 1st) and received Hypernovae on Tuesday, but because I work until 9:30 PM I didn't open him up until Wednesday. After placing the amber bits on his wings, I was ready to transform him...only to find that the chest armor got chewed on by who-knows-what. The fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu... :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD: Pictures below...

This doesn't look anything like the traditional stress marks one would find. Additionally, that's $180 I spent. :-( So for the past few days I have been trying to ignore the issue so that I can calm down and think rationally. Where should I start? Should I bring this issue to tfsource? Should I bring it up to Maketoys? I've never made such a decision before. Even with my most recent purchase from Toyworld, I decided to super glue a black plastic piece that runs underneath the bumper of Orion because it arrived broken at the hinge. Needless to say my Hypernovae is currently "grounded."

So, my fellow fans, what should I do now that I don't feel like smashing Hypernovae to tiny bits?

Talk to TFSource. Most retailers keep some supply for returns and parts swapping, TFSource most likely could help you out.

I see other people have already suggested what I would have, and you seem to be following that advice. I'll just chime in to say that my experience with TF Source has been pretty good. I once had a broken figure from them, and indeed when I wrote to them and asked if an exchange might be possible, their response was to just ship me out a replacement for the broken piece. I was quite happy!

Hopefully your experience will be similar.

Yotsuyasan, your experience is reassuring for me. Man, although I'm kind of bummed out about this, I still like Maketoys' overall quality. I've had only Hypernovae and Battle Tanker from Maketoys, but it seems like their plastic feels the most similar to HasTak's Transformers. I have Toyworld's Orion, and his plastic feels durable but cheap. Xovergen's Tactical Commander feels very delicate and light. Knight Morpher Commander feels hefty, but delicate as well. Hypernovae, on the other hand, feels like something that Takara pumped out. I am still in awe with this little guy. Well, hopefully I get a response from tfsource soon!

I agree with Maketoys quality as far as products I own. I don't have Hypernovae. (Not really a hole I felt needed filling in my collection... and in any case, while I understand it isn't a direct copy, the engineering on the cab section is a little too close to the line between third party and knock-off for my comfort...) But I do have the original Battle Tanker. And I love my Green Giant! That guy's a rock! I transform him semi-regularly between gestalt, individual robots, and individual vehicles, and I've never had any issues, the joints are all holding well, and nothing ever felt it was going to break.

I don't have most of the ones from other companies that you mentioned... But I'll agree on Knight Morpher. His plastic feels hefty and rock solid, but I always feel I have to be extra careful transforming him. Probably because most of his joints are so bloody tight. I'm not so worried about cracking the plastic in general (well, I suppose the tip of the lance or the two little red front wheels worry me occasionally) as I am worried that when I'm bending some of the joints it might take enough effort that it'll damage the toy in the process,

I'm of the mentality that if something looks cool, it's got to be in my collection. So there's really no rhyme or reason to my Transformers shelf.

That's precisely how I feel about KMC, so he hardly ever gets transformed.

Anyhow, on Monday I received an e-mail response from tfsource stating that my defective part will be replaced FREE OF CHARGE. Today I got a shipping notice. SUPER STOKED! I've been snubbed in the past by retailers and e-tailers for much more trifle purchases, so I'm very surprised with tfsource's accommodations to their customers. :APPLAUSE: :APPLAUSE: :APPLAUSE: They've definitely won me over! :KREMZEEK:

Every time I've had an issue with a product, TFSource has been super helpful, replacing it for free and shipping really quickly. At this point, I buy from TFSource any chance I get, precisely for this reason, even if it's a couple bucks more.
