So what do you guys here think about the botcon set?

Are you getting it this year? or would you rather spend your monies on whatever awesome third party products coming out at around the same time?

me myself am probably going to have to go with the botcon set this year.

The only thing I want from the Botcon set this year is Devcon. The rest hold very little interest for me.

I could afford the set if I wanted it, but aside from a median interest in Scorponok, most of it just doesn't hold any interest at all for me.

I mean don't get me wrong, I think they made some excellent choices this year with regards to the homages/repaints they decided to do (even if the theme is questionable at best) and many are among the more 'obvious' ones that fans have been requesting for years now. They just really don't do it for me.

That said, budget isn't a concern for me at all. If I wanted to buy every 3rd party figure hitting the market as well as the Botcon set, I could. I just don't want it as most of it would just be wasting space. It's the same reason that even though I did sign up for last year's subscription service (because I wanted more than half of the figures being offered), I'm going the more pricey (per figure anyway) route of snagging the 2 that I want from BBTS at their inflated prices (Thrustinator and Barricade).

I'm sure the club will do a set that really appeals to me at some point down the road once they've given up on trying to re-do existing characters and alternate universe versions of existing characters (I prefer it when they create original characters/repaints like 3H did when they were in charge of it, at least when they're using molds and color schemes I like) and I'll be throwing more money their way. It's just a matter of time I guess before they run out of characters and old fiction to re-hash (though SG Beast Wars is something I'd be all over in a heartbeat just because I'm a Beast Wars completionist).

I can afford the Botcon set as well as the current batch of third-party stuff I'm interested in. This is one of the reasons I'm glad I don't play video games. ;)

Lol tell you guys the truth. I really just wanted to know from you guys (in the third party forum) who's interested in this years set. Just threw the third party thing in there to keep it on topicish haha =X

There's actually nothing expensive coming out in the third party world that I would pick up atm.

I don't like buying those Botcon repaints. because they cost Five Plus times the cost of the Hasbro USA retail TF toys. Honestly all they are is glorified repaints with maybe a new head.

I don't mind spending Two to Three to Four times the price of Hasbro's USA TF retail toy. Because At least buying 3rd party TF toys offers buyers a new mold and not a repaint. Some of the time that new mold is something HasTak hasn't made yet.

I'm putting money aside from tomorrow's check to pay for the BotCon set this year (good timing, assuming it goes on sale next week). I've never owned that Energon Scorponok figure, and think it's really cool that it's now a Headmaster. I'm also interested in Devcon and Burning Guts Ginrai.

Sad thing is, there's a lot of 3rd Party coming out (or that has recently been released) that I want. The iGear seeker/conehead sets are top priority, and money used for the BotCon set would definitely help in my purchase of more jets. But, that's usually the case.

I'll admit, I am interested in buying the 2014 Botcon Scorponok toy. Sadly at those insanely high prices,$40 membership fees & $20 shipping fees. It's harder to sell the other figures that I don't like without taking a big loss in money.

Yeah, that's a significant hit for just 1 figure. Although I have a feeling you'd get good money back on Devcon and Ginrai. Probably not as much from Cannonball or Ferak. *shrugs*

Add this cost to the 3rd Party figures I want = financially sad.

Only Botcon figure I really want is Scorponok.
But, as much as I'd like him, I'm happy enough with the original Energon version to meet the needs of my collection.

I have interest in Devcon & Cannonball, but not for Botcon prices.

The Prime repaint I'm neither for nor against, but Ferak looks like a waste of plastic to me.

So, if I was going to Botcon, I'd probably be happy to keep the set, but since I'm not going I'll skip them.

Mooncake strikes again!!

To preface, the only box set I bought was last year's, and only for Strika & Obsidian (they REALLY should have been their own 2-pack). So I might end up trying to buy a bagged set off someone (Bueller??), and then keeping the couple I like.

I could see myself going for Cannonball & Fire Guts Ginrai, that's it. I don't see them being so expensive as to eat into my 3rd Party budget (besides, I think only MMC Talon is coming out around that time for me).

...

Here are my bonus opinions of the other 3:

Cyclonus & Scourge are very distinctive molds, and unless you're going to completely recolor them AND give them new heads (a la Senator Ratbat), it doesn't work great. Ferak is too reminiscent of Strafe, and Devcon's colors are too close to Scourge. Most custom Devcon's I've seen that use the Scourge mold remove the wings - I could get behind that, but then there's no real serviceable alt mode, but whatever.

Scorponok looks great. But he's going to be a modern brick, like so many of the Energon molds were. My hope is that he is the new Scourge: awesomely popular at Botcon, and inspires Hasbro to make a new mainline version. So I'll pass on this one.

I completely agree with freaking Ferak!! what a piece of crap! lol Although I've heard rumors that vanksta might be doing a head for it? think I saw a poll to see if people were interested somewhere. As for cannonball I don't really know who he is... so those are the two I'm not really interested in. But I might just keep the whole set just cause it's a thirtieth anniversary. And selling those two will probably end up at a loss as they seem to be the two least desirable
