X-Transbots did the same thing.
Because he's more of a generic robot than a figure meant to be an army building generic
And you think Cobra Rattlers aren't "army building generic" ? According to the reviewer, the bio says he is a mindless drone. (stated during the gun mode segment)
Do read the posts you quote?

Gee, I wonder, what I'm referencing to when I say an army building generic, could it possibly be the the viper figure? Could I possibly be saying that tailwind is less interesting, than viper a figure that is meant to represent the decepticon/cobra equivalent of a Stormtrooper?
Anyhow, if that was a little to subtle, yes I think Viper has worlds more personality in his appearance, compared to tailwind. Especially when you consider the latter of the two is just a blob of grey with blue limbs. If that warrants a figure, then i'd rather have a generations
Bad Boy before tailwind.
You did not specify who you meant when you said "he". One could take your comment either way. I took it as the oppisite of what you intended.
Anyways I always found GI Joe toys to be a little boring. I did own a sky striker as a kid, but never cared about collecting a bunch of little men. I preferred me some kick ass robots. I would much rather have a tailwind. I slapped a con logo right on x-transbots version of the rattler and he has been tailwind ever since.
You know what? I agree that the Air Strike Patrol were way more than forgettable generics. In his first issue at the helm of the U.S. comic, Furman turned them into a team with unique personalities in what little space he had. Tailwind in particular struck me as what I always wanted Starscream to be; that is, capable of shutting up up and biding his time. He deserves respect.
But he'll never actually get it if homaged by name, because he'll be written off as a dumb joke, similar to fellow Micromaster Erector. In fact, any tech spec data on Tailwind as this mold's third mode would surely reference the fart blaster from
Despicable Me. It's a sad fact of life. Get over it and bide
your time until maybe this remold actually does get a half-grey repaint down the road, perhaps under a pseudonym like that mixed up Storm Cloud (?) repaint of big ol' Universe Powerglide.
As for this toy...when he's not in jet mode, I just keep seeing Straxus over the Cobra homage I'm supposed to. He and Powerglide debuted in the same issue, and this toy even has a flying cannon mode. And since
Time Wars +
Two Megatrons ended up implying that Straxus-Megatron was who got rebuilt into Galvatron, the idea of Galvatronus wielding him becomes downright acid-trippy in my mind.
