The Iron Army has arrived and they are fun. They are really fun unless of course you are looking for four little robots and not the combiner. Individually your money is better spent elsewhere, but for a true PCC combiner these are awesome. Even now after the review I am discovering new ways of playing with him. Highly recommended to PCC fans or just owners of Heavytread.

Nice review man. I'm glad to see how they came out. I think I will be buy these soon.

I think the way you get the combined gun is to flip the silver tips on the shinden's gun back so that the hole you plugged mustangs gun into is facing up and then plug mustangs gun in.

I could be completely wrong, but that's what it looks like from pictures.

The gun you speak of does look better than mine but still looks like to plane tails stacked on top of each other. Personally I have been "holstering" them in the holes on the tanks treads/arms and usin the tank turrets instead. That was something I didn't even think about when I did the review. There truly is lots of fun to be had.

The Shinden was a prototype that never actually entered final production or operation before the war ended. It was actually meant to have forward facing 30 Cals in the nose. As far as I know only two were built, one of the prototypes is still in the Smithsonian collection I believe, and I think the other was destroyed.

That is something I didn't know. Do you know why the project was scrapped? Did it have something to do with them losing the war.

As far as I know they were set to go into full production in early 1946. But the Japaneses surrender and the terms of the peace treaty pretty much ended that. Its a very cool design, its a short range interceptor that was meant to strike down bombers. Very fast, very maneuverable, though apparently the torque of the rear mounted engine gave it some handling issues in the prototype flights. It also had some cooling issue for the engine, it would overheat if the engine ran to long on the ground since all the cooling was from intake lines that took air in only when the plane was moving.

I love those more unique planes that didn't follow the traditional format.

Thanks for the info. I too wish we got more unique planes, but it looks like the idea kind of died out after WWII. Most of our jets now follow the same basic idea. Kind of like sedans I guess.
