Bucky O' Hare - Toy Thread

Now before starting this thread, I did look to see if there had been any others. I saw one from last year specifically referring to Boss Fight Studios' then up and coming series. Yet it didn't seem to have gained any traction. so I'm starting a new one.

Discussing toys old and new!

At time of writing, Boss Fight Studios has begun pre-orders for Wave 3: The Toad Storm Troopers. Available in two forms, individually and as an "army builder" two-pack (Take note, HasTak!)

Image

I've got two of the Army Builder sets on order and I have collected the two previous waves, including the Easter Bucky.
As in-keeping with my mindset with MP Beast Wars, if you want the line, you go all in!

While I did have several of the original line, my only survivor is Toad Air Marshall (which I assume everyone had  )and Toadborg is the one BFS release I look forward to the most.

Sound off on the heroes of S.P.A.C.E. and the Toad Menace!

So I am a big Sci-Fi nerd. I just love robots, space ships, aliens etc Fiction that takes us out among the stars has always been top draw to me. Anthropomorphised characters also tap into some of the more 'out there' fantasy elements I likewise enjoy. Bucky came about at the right time for Lil SuperRobot to be fully onboard. TMNT was still huge and this, to me, being space bound was the next step up from that.

I had a friend, who had just about everything there was to own in this line. I believe I only ended up with three of the line before it vanished. Bucky O'Hare, Dead Eye Duck and Toad Air Marshall. I always wanted Toadborg, yet he was far too rare at the time.

Having recently re-watched the series on YouTube, it still holds up surprisingly well for a 90's cartoon. In part due to it's more serious tone and it's serialised nature. I also recently got my hands on the original comic book. It's a decent read but you can see the divide between the part of the comic that preceded the show and afterwards, as there is a bit of a story disconnect.

I do intend to support the BFS line til the end, knowing it won't be that big. Yet I have no interest in re-investing in the Classic line, as I just don't have the space. No pun intended.

Been a while since my last post (as evident elsewhere, real life health issues and all that Jazz) So time for an update from BFS and the thread in general. This will be the newest entry:

Image
Corsair Canard Dead-Eye Duck and a Bucky O' Hare Lunchbox.

Following on from the BFS Facebook page, the next figure (either accompanying Dead-Eye as Wave 4 or perhaps Wave 5) is soon to be announced. Which I will update here when relevant. To their credit, they are being vague on potential future releases. As opposed to some that tease or promise certain Collector figures and never deliver IE Mattel, HasTak.
Now, merely by sticking to the original line alone:

Image

They are still a long way from completion, 4 out of a potential 20 (21 if they give Bruce his own figure, while discounting redecos) and that doesn't even account for The Vehicles:

Image
Double Bubble

Image
Toad Croaker

Image
AKA
Image
The Righteous Indignation

Given the quality and steady frequency of BFS releases to date though, I remain both confident in supporting this line and patient in awaiting the next wave... Not to mention when the Storm Toad Troopers and Dead-Eye redeco actually ship

I honestly had no idea they made that many figures. None of the local TV stations back then had the cartoon, I'd seen it a couple times on cable at my grandparents' house, but that was it. Only one store around me got wave 1 one time, that was it. My experience with this line is severely limited.

I don't personally remember seeing that many non-show character toys at the various outlets back in the day. The friend I previously mentioned had the main Bucky crew (sans Jenny, naturally) and was quite the army builder with at least three Double Bubbles and 10 Storm Toad Troopers.

I am curious, given the Jenny figure was made and never materialised, that although these figures were all listed on the packaging how many made it into production. Most of the information I've been able to gather only vaguely lists "1 Wave" ever saw release.

Also, interesting whether the three mentioned only by name: Calvin Lupus-Smythe, Digger McSquint, Tadpole Tribot and Komplex made it beyond prototype/concept art, let alone those proposed for "season two"...

Love seeing this here, hah! Love transformers, but have so much nostalgia in Bucky stuff! I've been lucky enough to find a couple of prototypes from the original line and those have become a primary focus, but I do love the recent work from Boss Fight Studios as well!

Update: My (first) two Storm Toad Troopers have arrived and they are sublime. Easily the best of the line to date. The level of detail is phenomenal. The Trooper helmet is clearly a separate piece that was placed on the head of the figure, making the detail of the sculpt under the eye bubbles really stand out.

The difference between these figures (in spite of being a collector line vs. default) is like night and day.

A couple of recent announcements (via toy fair 2019)!

Image

On the Left, we have the prototype Mimi LaFloo. The heroic Captain of The Screaming Mimi, sister ship to Bucky’s Righteous Indignation. This sly fox includes removable hat, alternate face plates, alternate hands and twin blaster pistols! A new addition to the Toyline, previously show-only.

Image

On the Right, we have the new Animation Deco to the Storm Toad Trooper. I like to think of it as a visual distinction between the soldiers of Air Marshall and Toadborg (whenever either of them see the light of day).
Naturally, a lot brighter than the previous edition, without losing any of the detail. Unlike certain other Show Accurate redux figures...

Both expected to be announced for pre-order later this year.

News just in from Sweet Suite 2019, a minor update on Bruiser and potentially, how BFS might be tackling the vehicles.. Although I am hoping I am wrong in that respect.

In the past few days, the Aniverse Storm Toad Trooper redeco pre-order has launched! Exactly the same pricing as the default Trooper, they have an additional slack jawed (?) head sculpt, with a colour palette more in-keeping with their onscreen appearance.

Just a quick update to cap off 2019. From the Bossfightshop.com

Bruiser has been pushed back to a tentative release date now of "Spring 2020" as opposed to the previous, yet equally nebulous "Q4 2019".

Meanwhile Mimi and the Anime-deco Toad preorders, currently have no release date listed at all. Whether there are delays in production, a knock-on delay due to their masked wrestler line (and a couple others) being pushed this year or other factors to blame, time will tell.

Roll on 2020...

Update:

At time of writing, there is still no sign of Bruiser. On the plus side, both he and Mimi were on display at Toyfair 2020. The former next to his box and the latter looking very much like the finished article is encouraging.

In the meantime however, I got an email a few weeks ago from BFS and wouldn't you know it these guys arrived the other day...

I do love redecos and these two are a great addition to my growing Toad Army. Now if only I could get a Leader for them >:oP

Bruiser has finally arrived. He's big, heavy with solid joints and a lot more poseability than you'd think just to look at him. A great new addition to a virtually flawless line.

Note: You see all those spikes? They. Are. Sharp. So do take care.

A bit of a side note here. Although Season 2 of the show, toyline and comic never emerged. There was a continuation and in fact, canonical conclusion to the overarching narrative. Bucky O' Hare the arcade game (1992) is considered just that. If you have a spare hour, I dug up a video on YouTube. I say conclusion to the narrative, as there is no real interpersonal dialogue on the level of the show or comic. Although Konami did get the series voice cast involved. Enjoy!

I somehow missed this thread all this time! Holy crap!

Glad to see someone else on this site who shares my interest in these things! I've been taking pics of these guys since they arrived!

I'm irritated that there really aren't a lot of villains other than the generic toad troopers. My favorite villain was Toadborg, and I REALLY want them to do a figure of that. So I made my own using some Glyos Roboforce parts. I'm actually surprised at how well this works.

So... It's been a while.

A lot has been going on in the world this year (you might have heard) and with an increasingly ominous edge, no news on Bucky o' Hare since the summer. However, a couple of weeks ago I received a dispatch email...

BoH.jpg

Mimi has arrived and she is tiny!!

She looks amazing. I'm still not getting anyone aside from Bruiser and the Storm Toads out of their packaging until I finish redecorating. But now we have a problem. She was the last figure and the last prototype shown. That's worrying. Now BFS has had at least three or four news lines launch this year. So maybe that has led to Bucky taking a back seat. I'll have to contact them directly. Because, for however cool Mimi looks, I would hate this line to end on someone second to third tier. Meanwhile we haven't even had Air Marshall or Toadborg yet.

Watch this space for the reply.
