So I bought the diecast lions... They are actually really cool. Feel like they should've been a bit cheaper, but they are fun. And dense, holy farts!

Die-cast to the Maximus Prime.

How much of them are actually metal? It appeared to me that only the main torso was die-cast :-?

As for metal, I think the main torso sections of each are the only metal, but there is a lot. He is really heavy.

I finally bit on the Metal Defender set. Paid $55 pre-tax with the current deals @ Target. I probably still overpaid but I really wanted a Netflix Voltron. And I have interest in the regular set.

Great price, they are 30$ CAD here each which is **** insane. I bought them at $20 each since it felt like a deal compared to the $30 and felt it was the biggest waste of money I ever spent, so I brought it back. I much preffer the bigger figures, I feel I get much more for my money.

Oops, meant to say I did NOT have interest in the regular set. It's a little too big for me. I do wish the metal defender set was a little bigger to scale with the SOC version as well as CW/UW TFs. That would be tons of fun.

The die-cast ones? Amazon has the individual lions for $18 last I checked. $15 at TRU and Target. Target's website says the box set is their exclusive.

Both the large and the die cast sets are awesome. I have no regrets owning both of them

Finally opened up and played with the Metal Defender Voltron. It's okay, basically as advertised. It's not worth more than the $60 I paid for it.

Pros:
- Die cast adds nice heft for a smaller figure
- Looks pretty cool
- Red/Green lions mouth are spring loaded to close. At first I didn't like this, but it makes holding the weapon so much easier.

Cons (repeating what many have already said)
- Lack of head articulation
- Close together thighs + wide legs = splitting his feet further apart than typically looks normal
- Wings don't spread apart
- While I like the looks, one aesthetic that annoys me is the presence of the tails in Voltron form.
- General lack of quality. By this, I mean there are bunch of little things that add up to annoy me. A few paint imperfections, the black lion ears being just crooked enough to annoy me, etc. This is my biggest con and makes me think it's not worth more than $60.
- To a lesser degree, I don't like how the arms transform. I realize this is accurate to the Netflix Voltron. Just not a fan of folding in the lion arms into the torso.

Overall still a fun figure and I'm glad I have it. Between this and the SOC version, I'm pretty sure I don't need another Voltron. Can't wait to pose it with the SOC version.

So I was at Target today and saw this asshole.

He was mixed in with the legendary black lion. Same size, same price point and seems it might be cross compatible. They did not have any of the limb lions.

So is this just a special release or is it replacing the legendary lions at retail?

Note the box has the Netflix logo. I need to check if Netflix has the original show available.

Edit: Ah they do, thanks for the intro Optimus

Edit edit : my bad, it's hand picked episodes with intros from the cast and crew of the new show. Not what I was looking for but still pretty neat.

Did you buy the figure? If so, thoughts?

Netflix Voltron is one of the best shows I've seen in some time!

I did not. I'm 4 limb lions in on the legendary set and prefer that look.

Agreed, just fired up S3 E1!

I have that Classic Legendary Voltron on preorder at BBTS. Well, Black Lion is in. I'm just waiting on the others. I'll let y'all know what I think.

I don't like the new stuff from Netflix very much, though I did get the die cast set. It's pretty cool.

I didnt know the new 84 set was out, this is great news! There are multiple reviews online too. While he is the same size as the previous Voltron combiner, they cant swtich limbs between the different combiners. Articulation seems to be better with this one, especialy with the arms and he finally has a rotating neck. Looks better proportioned too. I do wish these were the same size as the scramble city combiners we got in combiner wars and i do wish the lions' limbs in this 84 one were chomed.

I also have the SOC, but I still kind of want the classic version. I'll wait for them to go on discount, and would probably leave them in lion mode. I don't need a 16" Voltron.

Sell an organ. The instructions are worth the price alone. It's sold by Amazon.com so you can do what I did and use gift cards to take the edge off the price.

Pretty neat that you can swap limbs between the Voltron Legendary Defender and Voltron Classic Defender sets!! I'm definitely picking up the Classic Defender. Voice chip is close enough to the original actors, although they should've added the theme song somewhere!! :-D

Ha I knew it. The peg holes looked exactly the same. That's a cool and fun feature.

The Netflix show is soooo good. Almost done with season 4. Anyone know how many seasons are planned, or is it open ended?

On a side note, I wish the people responsible would reboot Transformers.

I wish they were too. Although then I realize if they handled transformers it may be more about character drama with Chip and Daniel while the giant robot fights taking a back seat.

As for how long the show will be, Netflix ordered a certain number of episodes and I believe we are at the half way point. I forget how many are left, I had read it in an IGN review.

Thanks for posting the review, itscramtastic. I really like about 95% of what I see. Nice work, Playmates. Perhaps the only nitpick would be: I wish the yellow and blue lions had shoulders that got broader when the head goes down from leg mode to lion mode. My ancient die cast lion set has that feature. But, otherwise, looks really good and I am looking forward to getting them.

As far as the Netflix show, I know I suffer from childhood nostalgia bias, even as I sometimes roll my eyes at the formulaic pattern of the old shows. Yet, I do like some of the story lines...

I kinda wish they went with a continuation of Voltron than a straight up re-boot, but I get where they are going. I do not begrudge people liking the new show, and I hope kids get as much enjoyment out of it as I did the original cartoon series.
