It's one I wish they used a bit more, actually.

So far, Scrapheap is the only episode where no one transforms.

The reason they're always trying to kill him is because he's Optimus Prime, and the Decepticons can score a major victory with his death. The reason he was gone in this episode is because they wanted to put more focus on Bulkhead and Wheeljack, and I guess they couldn't find a way to keep Prime around without him hogging the spotlight.

I dont understand the motivation of the Decepticons in this show. They have more than enough drone troops to mine or recover the Energon caches left on Earth and run enough interference to keep 5 Autobots busy.

Megatron's Dark Energon zombie plan was G-1esque campy.

There were plenty of transformations in the "Darkness Rising" mini-series and in "Masters & Students". Plus, Makeshift changed his entire appearance into that of Wheeljack.

SlyTF1 wrote:Also, what is it with Optimus? Why does everyone always want to kill him, and why is he always gone? The show's subtitle is called "Prime" So I assume in this show, Optimus will have something to do with something else that is important.
Megatron believes that Optimus stole the chance to earn the title of Prime from him, and so everyone loyal to Megs wants Optimus dead to gain favor with their master.

I want to kill Optimus for being so damn mellow and preachy. He and Artoo's big brother are probably the only annoying factors in this series so far.

Plus Starscream and Soundwave are shown transforming and flying off at the end of Con Job.

At least he's not as bad at that as Primal was in Beast Machines. For instance, this Optimus actually does things other than preach.

Still, they never really go anywhere. For 2 episodes straight, most of it takes place in the base, with almost no one transforming. It looks like the next episode will have more exploration though. And Ratchet never transformed once. And his vehicle was only ever shown for a second in the first episode

Its probably too expensive and time consuming to do anything so fancy as multiple transformations and road trips in such a humble cartoon.

Don't want to sound like a naïve Transformers rookie, but essentially that’s what I am at this point. I’ve watched chunks of G1 and Beast Machines/wars and all of Animated. I was a little uncertain of Prime at first, but after watching it avidly I’m rabid at the mouth for more. A few things I want to bring up:
1. Optimus has no nose. Oh well… what are you gonna do…?
2. I can understand why the sub-arctic temps would compromise their systems, but what fails me is how they can fight in space with seemingly no problems. Maybe it’s the water in the arctic, I don’t know.
3. Best incarnation of Ratchet I’ve seen yet
4. Lack of rendering on some of the humans bugs me
5. Prime should be a little more personable. They’re mirroring Bay and g1 Optimus to the max, and while I still love his character, I think they could squeeze in a few imperfections. Make him laugh so hard he snorts or something.
6. I thought I would hate Arcee but surprisingly she’s a really strong character. Heavy use of sarcasm.

Do we know of only 2 seasons so far? 26 eps in each season, I guess that isn’t too bad…

I explained this one a few pages back. Space is only cold if you're in the shade. If you're not, sunlight unfiltered by the atmosphere can be lethal to humans.

See, this is why I loved Animated. No one was like you ever expected them to be, except maybe Bumblebee. Optimus wasn't the perfect, all powerful leader of the Autobots. He was some random kid who crashed on an alien planet, then throughought the series became better at life. But not completely perfect.

And Prime Ratchet is just Animated Ratchet with a stronger hatred for humanity and everyone else. But Animated Ratchet had a reason to hate everything. This Ratchet is just pissed for no reason...like me. (Random sound effect)

I believe this is the first Optimus Prime I cringe every time I realise he's going to start talking. It's like he has some kind of mental condition which makes him unable to talk normally and forces him to let everything sound like an inspirational speech.
And I just got over his design, now I want him and Bumblebee to die, instead of just Bumblebee.

Also I have to say Wheeljack is what I imagined Drift would be like when we first heard of him, I like him.

That's true, but I'd be willing to bet that the 1st season won't go without some flashbacks from TF:P Ratchet. From what I gathered, he's just younger than Optimus in this series. Correct me if I'm wrong.

None of the Bots and/or Cons in this series do.

SlyTF1 wrote:See, this is why I loved Animated. No one was like you ever expected them to be, except maybe Bumblebee.
I would go as far as to say "no one". Some characters were expected to have the personalities that they did wind up having, like Starscream, Megatron, Alpha Trion, Ultra Magnus, Jazz, Grimlock, Blurr, Arcee, Omega Supreme, etc.

SlyTF1 wrote:Optimus wasn't the perfect, all powerful leader of the Autobots. He was some random kid who crashed on an alien planet, then throughought the series became better at life. But not completely perfect.
Amen! This is why I like such leaders as him, Optimus Primal, Ginrai, G1 Rodimus Prime (Only for the last few minutes of the G1 movie, before season 3 started), and (to an extent) Fortress. All these guy were just your average joes (or in some cases, not even that) who were thrust into a position of authority that they did not want and/or expect to happen to them, and thus had to grow into their newfound leadership roles to become the heroes that they did.

It's this kind of depth that makes leader characters great. Having someone who's both the leader and already epic for no other reason than for the sake of being epic is just "lazy awesome".

(Hmm, "lazy awesome". I wonder if there already exists such a TV Trope?)

Though, there is a way around this with this series' Optimus. If we consider him to be the same one from Exodus (as Hasbro does), then we've already got plenty of his backstory and development done and over with, as he too had to undergo the "leadership growth" in that book that the above-mentioned leaders had to undergo as well.

Nope, look again. Like everyone else, a piece of their "helmets" comes down to form what looks like a nose. All of the bots do, it's an aesthetic they bought over from Animated. Optimus's doesn't come down very far, so it's noticeable when he doesn't have his faceplate on. It's not as noticeable with Ratchet because there's not a lot of contrast between the colors of his helmet and his face.

EDIT: So...the Autobots refer to their base as Autobot Outpost Omega-1. In Red vs. Blue, the bases were Blood Gulch Outpost Alpha and Blood Gulch Outpost 1. Anyone else think that's a small reference or am I just stretching it?

I thought that was their noses. If not, HOW DO THEY BREATHE!? Lol, jk, jk. But seriously, how do they? I want to write a book about how Cybertronians function. Or someone do this! There have been countless series and no one has made a guide to the biology or...techno ology to Cybertronians? That's a problem.

I'm thinking OMEGA SUPREAM! Like in Animated, the first episode, they tried to access the ship's "Omega" mode. And it turned out to be Omega Supream.

They don't breathe, they're robots. Why would a robot need to breathe? In Animated, Bumblebee didn't even know what the word meant.

They're not robots. They're sort of robots. A robot is manufactured. Cybertronians come from nature...sort of. Depending on what series you look at. In G1, yeah, they where built. But in Animated and the movies, they come from the Allspark and as far as we know, no one built the Allspark; so it had to have been natural. IDK, life confuses me. #-o

They ARE robots, otherwise the franchise tagline wouldn't include the phrase "Robots in Disguise." Not "naturally-made constructs that in many ways resemble robots in Disguise."

Japan has terms for denoting such differences between the robots that Cybertronians are and the robots that they aren't: Super Robots and Real Robots.

In fact, nearly all of the classic Japanese TF series (including Japanese dubs of Western series), the Transformers were referred to as "Super Robot Lifeforms".

Nowadays, the movies and Prime have brought up the terms "Autonomous Robotic Organisms" (strictly speaking of the Autobots, though the Decepticons have also been seen as a splinter movement from this group instead of an entirely different group)

Ok, they're robots in disguise from "nature", then. At least in Animated, the movies, and evidently Prime.
