In this hilarious BotCon 2013 script reading (split across two separate video recordings) set in the Aligned continuity, not even Rumble and Frenzy themselves know who's the red one and who's the blue one.

Well, he has some blue/purple but no red/black.
Where? The body and thighs are yellow, the head and arms are black, and the waist and legs are gray.
The waist and legs looked faded blue/purple to me. Maybe I'm color blind. :???:

Case closed. The blue one is just Rumble trying out his unbearably bad Reflector cosplay.

Belief does not mean yer right...

Sorry. A toy guy here. The toys and their names and tech specs came first. They are right (in my opinion) and the cartoon that is notorious for colour cock ups is wrong. Never really got how anyone can honestly think otherwise but whatever.

My personal philosophy when it comes to characters' base identities, personalities and appearances is that the toys (and their bios) always comes first. For just about every other continuity this is very difficult to apply, but for G1 I definitely use it for many reasons - a lot of the fiction around then came around at the same time and interpreted the toys' personalities differently, all varied from each other in terms of characters' personalities and the tone of the entire story, and then there's the fact there's some toys like Chop Shop and Hubcap and Vroom that never really got used at all. For me it's toys first as your source material, then you consider interpretations that came after it (cartoon, marvel, IDW, Dreamwave ).

So yeah, Rumble's red. Though I could care less :P

Eh, there's a lot of people who grew up with just the G1 cartoon and maybe the toys without really looking at the names. Or even forgetting the names and just assigning them what names appeared on the show. So it's easy to see why they see the blue one as Rumble cos that's the character they grew up with. No different from Jetfire/Skyfire, really.

And that brought me to an interesting thought. It's not about which one is red and which one is blue, it's all about what medium has ultimate authority: the toy line, or the cartoon. Unfortunately, that is all a matter of opinion...

Hooray!! Opinions!

I like opinions ;)^

I guess the cartoon resonated with me the most as a kid, over the comics or the toy catalog.. Although I love those dang catalogs..

I like to call him Skyfire just to differentiate from the two other guys called Jetfire - Unicron Trilogy and Animated - who are decidedly not just new versions of G1 Jetfire like Animated Ratchet is a new version of G1 Ratchet; but are just using the name like Movie Bonecrusher is just using the name of G1 Bonecrusher and nothing else.

So that's fun.

would their ship name be jetfire or skyfire. wasnt he named skyfire when he was with the decepticons and jetfire when he changed sides

Not sure what you mean by ship name.

And nah, in the cartoon he was always called Skyfire. It's due to that whole copyright and trademark mallarky over the Jetfire toy being from another company; same thing that prevented Whirl, Roadbuster, Topspin, Twin Twist and the Deluxe Insecticons from being in the cartoon.

Admittedly it's a pretty weird idea to avoid copyright/trademark problems by completely changing the identity and appearance of the toy you're advertising and limiting their appearances, pretty much destroying the point of the advertisement; but I digress. That's what they did.

This is actually an odd one for me. While I go by the (admittedly flawed) cartoon 99% of the time, I don't really with him. Mainly because the toy for this character has ALWAYS been called Jetfire, so I'm more inclined to lean that way.

However with the whole helmet gimmick he's gotten lately, you can make him either or. I have Hasbro and Takara's Leader Jetfire, and I leave one mask less for Skyfire, and one masked for Jetfire ;)^

Talking of the mask, nice thing about the Generations toy is that it's not just a better version of the Classics toy that invalidates it - since the Generations toy represents the cartoon/comic model which is a completely different design from the Classics toy which represents the G1 toy.

I go with Jetfire, because...well...reasons. One of the most exciting and memorable TF toy purchases of my youth. Birthday money! Showed up to the toy store with my collected $25, had not heard of or seen him before, and was super stoked! Blew the whole wad on the one toy.

Of course later I was sad, confused, and let down (again  ) when he showed up on the show with a different name and look. I get it now, and actually it was a smart way to get around the legal issues so this cool character could be in the show.

But, in my world, he was Jetfire first, so Jetfire he will stay.
