IDW Transformers marathon

Even though I'm a big comic fan, I didn't jump on board with the IDW Transformers comics right away. I started reading with the 2009 ongoing series up until now. I lapsed after Robots in Disguise and More Than Meets the Eye #12 but have since then have caught up and read them almost monthly.

I realized that I haven't read the first run of the IDW comics. I went back and started with the Simon Furman comics and recently finished All Hail Megatron. Finished them in a couple of days. Solid run of comics, especially AHM!

Looking forward to re-reading the 2009 ongoing through the current run of comics. While I'm at it, I'm also tempted to re-read the Marvel run. It's been a couple of year since I've read those books.

Supreme Convoy! You're alive!!! :-D

I am about to get into the MTMTE series from IDW, I heard good things. The other series I read were Maximum Dinobots, Beast Hunters, Last Stand of The Wreckers, and ReGeneration One. All of them were disappointing. All of them. I had high hopes for ReGeneration One, but it was clear Simon Furman lost his mojo a long time ago.

Yep, reading Transformers comics made me come back to the board again.

More Than Meets the Eye is a lot of fun!

Interesting about ReGeneration One. I'll still read it after I re-read the Marvel run.

Temper your expectations with RG1.

I re-read the whole thing recently and found that I actually enjoyed it. The story can be rushed at times (particularly the penultimate arc), but the overall plot is pretty engaging.

There are just two things you need to be aware of with respect to the series:

1) Aside from the first arc, this is not Optimus Prime's story.
2) It is a story of redemption. It is a tragedy.

Re-read the 2009 ongoing. #21 was my favorite issue but #31 has become my new favorite of the run. I love the homage to Peter David's Hulk and James Robinson's Starman.

Nice to see some love for 31, even if it is pretty short thanks to the "recap" pages. Was a nice way to press pause for a short moment before the new ongoings started. When it's all said and done, I think we'll look back on that issue as a pretty darn big deal.

I heard Omega Supreme blew Monstructor to bits with one shot from his plasma cannon arm in the IDW comics. Is that true?

No. But Monstructor does have a weak-point that the Autobots have figured out, which, when hit, causes him to separate back to the individual component robots. Monstructor is, however, certainly still alive, with whereabouts unknown.

Did Omega Supreme overpower Devastator and shoot him through the abdomen? I heard he put deny in an in breakable bearhug. Can Devastator beat Monstructor?

Are the Marvel comics better than the IDW series?

Omega Supreme did best Devastator towards the end of All Hail Megatron by blasting him through the abdomen.

As to who would win between Devastator and Monstructor, the jury is out. They both seem to be a bit more powerful than the more recently created combiners, and they've both lost to Omega Supreme. It might depend on which version of Devastator we're talking about; I'd put Prowlestator over any of the other combiners.

It depends on what you want. The Marvel comics are more classically comic book-ish: Big action, big drama, and a sprinkling of characterization along the way. They American run is also very consistent in tone, as two writers are responsible for the vast majority of the run.

The IDW comics are less consistent in tone and quality given the various creative teams who have worked on them, and the series of soft reboots to the line. That said, I think the current comic line is better than anything else that preceded it (Combiner Wars being the exception).

Have Galvatron ever met Megatron in the IDW comics? And who is more powerful? Shockwave did upgrade Megatron.

The answers here are "yes" and "we don't definitively know", respectively. Galvatron literally ripped Megatron in half at one point, but this was a surprise attack, maybe even from behind iirc, but Megatron was also later able to take Galvatron down with his fusion cannon, though this was while Galvatron was busy attacking Bumblebee and it was thought that Megatron was pretty much down for the count due to being ripped in half as noted earlier.

Are all the IDW comics in continuity. I heard "All Hail Megatron" is not. Yet this series is the most G1 cartoon accurate in terms of how the characters look. They are the spitting image of g1.

Does Omega Supreme fight in the "Combiner Wars"?
