Hey guys,

For those of you who are not aware my group Karyuudo Fansubs (http://karyuudofansubs.blogspot.com/2016/02/beast-wars-ii-progress-update.html) is almost finished subtitling Beast Wars II in English. We should have something out in the coming weeks, so please look forward to it!

Currently, I'm putting together the extras for the set, and I was wondering if anyone out there happens to own physical copies of any of the following:

CD Single (CODZ-3077) of: Chou Semeitai Transformers Beast Wars II

CD Single (CODC-1511) of: Yume no Iru Basho

Any Beast Wars II cels that they own and are willing to share scans of.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Karyuudo

No problem at all. We're pretty much done now. Just taking care of a few loose ends and we'll have a date announced.

I realize this is April 1st, however, I'm just giving everyone a heads up that the release for Beast Wars II will be tomorrow (April 2nd). I'll start a new thread up after the torrent is up and running. Hope everyone enjoys the hard work that went into putting this series together.

FAQ (Also known as please read first before asking questions) :)

Question: What do I need to download this?
Answer: To be able to download these, you will need a BitTorrent client. We recommend Deluge, a simple BitTorrent client that will do the job with no advertisements or hidden surprises.

Once you install the application, you're ready to download from the torrent. Download and open the .torrent file, add it to Deluge, and the application will do the rest.

Once your download is complete, you can view this release with VLC.

Question: Will you release these on DVDs?
Answer: Sorry, we have no plans to do this.

Question: Are you planning on subtitling Beast Wars Neo?
Answer: We have no plans at this time to subtitle Beast Wars Neo. It doesn’t mean that we won’t do it, but we’ve just spent the past year putting together this project for everyone, so we need a break. :)

Question: Was this series very difficult to translate?
Answer: Yes and no. If a non-native Japanese were to translate this series on their own, there would probably be something lost or misinterpreted in the translation. Thankfully for our team, we have a wonderful friend and teammate named Takae, who is a native born Japanese and fluent in both languages. She, like all of us, is a huge Transformer fan, and took a lot of time out of her busy schedule over the past year to script and translate the first draft of each episode. If there’s anyone you should be thanking for this series to have been translated, it’s her. :) On top of translating, there’s research that was needed to be done, since sometimes there’s references to old TV shows and movies in the series, and this needed to be explained. All of these instances have been recorded in the translator notes.

Question: Are you planning on translating all of the Japanese dub of Beast Wars and Beast Wars Metals since you have those two specials in the collection?
Answer: No. We did those two special episodes as an bonus for everyone, since they came on the same DVD as the Beast Wars II movie. We felt that doing this would give Western fans an idea on some of the changes to the dialogue that was done. We hope you enjoy them!

Question: Why are some of the character’s names different than certain Transformers fan and resource sites as well as from the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook?
Answer: There are many Transformers fan sites out there which are great resources, with many fans devoting much time to put the information out there to help others understand / fill in the gaps on many different Transformers series. With respect to everyone, fan sites are not official (and neither are we) on how the character’s names are written. There is also some disagreement with how the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook was created; and how many fans didn’t agree with the way some of the character’s names were spelled and their bios’ were written, since most of reference material was based from a fan page. Additionally, the spelling of some character’s names varies depending on which Japanese media related material you’re looking at. With that in mind, we’ve spelled the characters names on how we as a group felt. With several names such as Tasmanian Kid versus Tasmania Kid, or Autocrusher versus Autocrasher, there’s several ways you can write them into English. Bottom line, it’s how one interprets it based on the katakana characters.

Question: I would like to customize the subtitles for myself; how do I do that?
Answer: There’s a site called MKVToolNix which hosts various tools to extract the subtitles with. Once to extract the files you can edit them with a subtitling program called Aegisub. We’ve also included the fonts we used in the package so that they appear the same in your customized authored version. Generally speaking, most fan groups like to burn or hard subtitle their files into the video to prevent others from using them. However, we don’t follow this same practice and leave ours as soft subtitles, allowing one to turn them on or off while watching.

Question: I’d like to use your subtitles and translate this show into my native language and publicly release this. Are you OK with me doing this?
Answer: Absolutely! We kindly ask that you contact us either by PM, or on our Facebook page before doing so, as well as providing us the credit in the subtitles with your release. The more that others can get to watch and enjoy this series in their native language, the better it is for the entire community. :)

Question: For some reason, it doesn’t look like VLC is using the fonts properly. How can I fix this?
Answer: You can either copy all the fonts provided in the Extras folder into your fonts folder within C:\Windows\Fonts or right click on each of them included in the package and install them. Unfortunately, since I don’t use either OSX or Linux, I cannot provide any advice on how to install these on those operating systems. However Google can help you with that :)

Question: Are you getting compensated somehow?
Answer: No. Just as we did Car Robots, Zone and Legends of the Microns, we do these projects for free and for fans to enjoy. This series in particular is considered one of the holy grail's among fans, and we’re excited to be able to finally share it with everyone. We hope everyone appreciates the hard work and hundreds of hours that went into creating this.

Question: I have something I want to ask that wasn’t covered here.
Answer: By all means, do ask, and we’ll do the best we can to answer.

Took 22 and half hours to download but I finally got it! After getting it, I'm gonna need to buy a new external hard drive pretty soon, but I've no regrets. Getting this series in subtitled form after all this time is worth all of the space it all takes up on my hard drive.

You guys have done this fandom a great deal of service. The quality of all that Karyuudo Fansubs has provided goes above and beyond the call of duty. Multiple subtitle tracks, obscure bonus content, holy grails that barely anyone knew existed; it's things like all this that show how much these fansubbed releases are tailored to the fans with so much passion and devotion put into the effort of going the extra mile. On behalf of all those who appreciate what Karyuudo Fansubs has done for the Transformers fandom, we salute you. (we really need a "saluting" emoticon)

Don't ever stop being this awesome, KF. You've all set the bar really high for subtitled Transformers releases. ;)^

Wow! Thanks so much Sabrblade for the kind words. As I've mentioned in several threads on other boards, this series wouldn't have been possible without the dedication of our translator (and good friend too!), Takae. She's a real trooper, and dedicated long hours and to ensure that we had an accurate translation for everyone to enjoy. I've said to her many times before how grateful I am for the work she's done. However, I think seeing comments like yours, will also make her happy that the last year of translating was worth it to see the joy that everyone is getting out of the final product.

We'll keep trying to do the best for you guys :) Enjoy!

You need to download a BitTorrent client to download the torrent itself. I have μTorrent since it's small and efficient, taking up very little space on my hard drive. Once you have the client, you then need to download the torrent file, open it, and then let the client download the whole thing to your computer (this particular release takes up almost 18 GB, so make sure first that you have the necessary room for it on your computer's hard drive).

The speed of the torrent download all depends on how healthy the torrent itself is (since this one is new, it should be very healthy) and how many seeders it has (seeders are people who have already downloaded the torrent completely and still have the files on the same computer that they used to download them; the more seeders a torrent has, the healthier it is and the faster it downloads). For really big torrent files like this one, it might be best to let it download overnight, but you have to leave the computer on for the process to complete itself (I did this and it took 22 and a half hours for it to download on my end, but I started when there were far fewer seeders due to the torrent being so new at the time; it should download much faster by now).

Once the torrent download is complete, you should be able to access the episode files from the folder you downloaded them into. The episodes are in .mkv format, so you need a media player than can play that format. Media Player Classic and VLC Player can both play .mkv files, but Windows Media Player on its own cannot. However, if your download the Combined Community Codec Pack (which includes Media Player Classic with it), Window Media Player will then be able to play just about any video or audio file, including MKVs.

Interesting, sounds a little dodgy, but I'll think on it, got a Republic of Gamers laptop, so I should be good on that end, thanks

You can always pick and choose which files you want from the torrent if space is an issue. Just open the torrent file in uTorrent / Deluge and uncheck what you don't need.

Yep, unfortunately, not much you can do about that. Although, I consider 50 gigs to be a lot these days... 18 gigs... well, it's about average.

Posting this announcement since it hasn't been posted yet. Karyuudo Fansubs has put together a high quality release of the never-before-released-on-DVD second Japanese Beast Wars movie, titled "Beast Wars Metals: Convoy's Great Transformation!"

http://karyuudofansubs.blogspot.com/2016/04/release-beast-wars-metals-convoys-great.html

Image

Hey everyone,

We're back with another release which you won't find anywhere else. We're proud to present to you a DVD quality release of Beast Wars Metals: Convoy's Great Transformation.

For those of you who are not aware, when Beast Wars Metals was released in Japan, there was a theatrical special which used footage from the Beast Wars season 3 episode called Cutting Edge. This special was released on VHS, but not on DVD. Fortunately, Walruslaw managed to get his hands on it, and was kind enough to capture a copy of the VHS cassette for us to use.

While the audio of the release was free of any issues, the video quality was definitely not up to par. However, there was some luck that with the release of the Music Matrix DVD (courtesy of Rockman666) we were able to get the opening of the special in a DVD quality format. However, this didn't solve the issue of the rest of the episode. Thus, we began a project to splice the DVD video from the US releases, and transpose them over top of the VHS footage so that it would match 1:1 (of close to it anyway!)

One of the biggest issues however, was the ending credits, which required a complete reconstruction from scratch. Using both Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop, we managed to put together a version which is extremely comparable to a retail copy - if it were to ever exist. We also would like to thank Primal Sabbath for his assistance with identifying each of the clips shown during the ending sequence, as well as Micchan’s assistance with the Japanese credits, so that it was possible to re-create the ending credits in its entirety. And last but not least, we’d like to make a big thank you to our translator, Takae, who felt this release would not be complete without being subtitled in English for Western audiences.

What this release includes:

Beast Wars Metals: Convoy's Great Transformation (DVD Quality Version - MKV format)
  • Original Japanese language with 2 optional sets of English subtitles. The 1st set is with the original Japanese faction names, honorifics, and translated command code for changing modes
  • 2nd set is for casual fans which replaces the Japanese factions names, character names, honorifics, and command code for changing modes into the Western names.
Beast Wars Metals: Convoy's Great Transformation (VHS Quality Version - MP4 format)
  • This version contains no subtitles, as it has been included solely for reference to compare with our reconstructed version.
Reference Guide - A PDF Format Guide explaining translations, cultural references and information about the special

CD Singles (FLAC format)
  • Ano Yume no Kanata e ・WA! WA! Wonderland - C.O.A.
Videos (Various formats)
  • Beast Wars Convoy's Great Transformation Commercials
Images (JPEG format)
  • VHS Cassette Scan
