For some character i.e. Skids yes, others no. It depends on how much they are freshed out in the original cartoon etc. Cyclonus is probably the one that I have the most difficulty with, in G1 he was portrayed as a loyal warrior and even having a code of honor; but the IDW version is a fun character in his own right. A patriot, trying to find his way in a world he is no longer familiar with.

For me this applies to a lot of characters, as they generally have more personality. Specifically Prowl (one of my favorite characters atm), Overlord, Dirge, Ramjet, Tailgate, and Swerve.

For me?

The dialogue/speech patterns, yes.

The takes on new characters, yes.

But the broad strokes of G1 Sunbow remain my definitive take, supplemented by IDW, Marvel, and Beast Wars for the characters and subjects on which G1 Sunbow is silent.

Devastation is kind of set in my ideal continuity.

That said, on a recent G1 rewatch, it struck me that the visuals and audio quality weren’t as good as I remember but the dialogue had some gems. Especially Rodimus Prime. When he isn’t whining (which he does, not that much) he’s complaining with a kind of weary, fatalist sense of humor.

He expects the worst. He comes off depressed. His wisecracks are funny, often a bit darkly so for a kids show.
