Courtesy of IDW Publishing directly, and following their embargo rules, we are now able to share with you all the solicitations for the Transformers comics due out in July 2018 - and it's a bit of a doozy, as the doubling up of titles for the ongoing series Lost Light and Optimus Prime begins, alongside the start (also double issues) of Unicron: Darkest Hour.

There are - obviously - spoilers for absolutely everything absolutely everywhere below. Proceed with caution.

The retail incentive cover for Unicron #1 literally made me roll my eyes. An image that is the very definition of "Geewunner Fan-Fic"

Image

I really hope Prime gets eaten... >:oP

Those are an awesome set of covers.

Really like how the Unicron story has literally everyone from every branch of the recent stories in on the action

I know what it's in reference to. That's part of what makes the image as ridiculous as it is.

What makes a reference to classical art so ridiculous?

It's not the Classical art reference that is ridiculous but its specific implication within this context. I imagine it won't be long before Prime is featured in a 'The Creation of Adam' referenced cover. :P

Optimus Prime = God-Bot is such a naff and tiresome trope at this point.

I get it... "Blah, blah, I hate the cover", "Blah, blah, blame G1 fans.

Cautiously optimistic about these books regardless.

Clearly not, because I neither stated that nor implied such. I found it funny and a somewhat silly and pretentious reference within context. Didn't say I didn't like it >:oP

Are you proudly referring to yourself as a "Geewunner?"

Shockwave? Yes, please. I might actually have to read the Optimus book now. Thank Primus for TPBs. And it also places Dark Cybertron in somewhat of a new light.

    Absolutely not.
I've said many times already: G1 is dead and has been for a couple decades now. As a Transformers fan, I accepted that long ago and moved on.
All I'm saying RE that cover, is you can appreciate the quality of the art and not like the drawing, after all.
