Standing Armies, or the Lack Thereof

I was trying to come up with ideas for a fanfiction, and I was on character creation when I noticed that very few Transformers continuities have large armies that aren't drones and are actually shown. G1 only had that during the third season, Armada only had it during the final fight with Unicron, and Energon had it a little bit, but that was it.

What do you guys think of that? Why do you think that is, beyond a toy-creating standpoint?

Way too many characters to keep straight?

Definetly way too many characters to keep track of. Tons Transformers with different personalities is going to create way too busy of a fight, and it's also going to cause alot of transformers getting killed.

I'm a huge generic army tf fan, i don't like the idea of drone armies, but rather real tfs fighting and dying

Check out the old Marvel comics that take place on Cybertron, most soldier TF's are generics (and there's tons of 'em).
