Does anyone know the reason Call of the Primitives was so well animated?

it was animated by a different company, IIRC it was not toei or akom.

That makes sense. IIRC must have been trying to make a good piece for their portfolio.

I've heard people mention it was the same company that did Akira. Shame they didn't do any other tf eps, the animation in Primitives is so great, I sometimes watch that ep just for the opening fight.

It is a brilliant episode. Rodimus Prime's wings alone look superb.

Abominus' head emerging when the Terrorcons combine is forever burned into my memory. The way the antennas flip out.

My favourite episode ever.

I hear that.

If I remember correctly, I believe the company that did the animation for "Call of the Primitives" was TMS (Tokyo Movie Shinsha).
They've also done Mighty Orbots, Bionic Six and Galaxy High (their own productions, made for the US market), as well as providing animation for Visionaries, and the Little Nemo movie.

Damn I wish they would make the next tf cartoon. That episode look truely badass. All of the tfs look like they could kick all our ass and take all our base.

That one scene is why I love Abominus so much. It rocked.

Indeed, I think that it had the best season three character artwork ever...

I'd like to see what they could have done with some of the earlier episodes from Season 1 and/or 2.

Love to see some of the bots like Sideswipe, and Prowl in their design animated!!! 8)

Great animation for a stupid plot.

I apologize for the vulgarity in advance, but...
Stupid plot my ass! that was one of the greatest episodes of the series focusing on the animal Transformers not of a single faction but all the factions (Dinobots, Predacons, Cassettes ((First and only appearance of Slugfest and Overkill)), Terrorcons, Sky Lynx and Trypticon) plus the great animation, Sky Lynx actually staying in his combined beast form instead of his lower half disappearing into his upper half, or vice versa, and the fact that Trypticon can fly. Also given Unicron an origin in the TV show. Also one of the greatest dialog exchanges ever.

"Grimlock save universe!"
"Stop it you stupid!"
"Why you call Grimlock stupid?"
"You ruined my lab!"
"Heheh, Me Grimlock think that smartest thing me ever done!"

'scuse me, bub?

By "stupid", I mean that we find out that a dark god of destruction and chaos, who is 10 zillion feet tall, was built by a 3 ft tall talking monkey fish.

The only thing I didn't like about it was Unicron being built by that monkey shrimp. But it was a good idea to have the primitives of each side battling together.

Still, rectified that in my fan fic. 8)

What I think a latter episode should have done was brought in that Primacron created a giant planet TF that the essence of Unicron then possessed as a physical form and, hence, have it connect to the comic origin.

Id like to know how much that episode cost to make in comparison to other Season 3 episodes.

I would have liked the movie to have been made with that kind of quality throughout, but it probably would have broke the budget...

I think your right.....There was an other tread a few months ago about this topic and a few of these question were answered by Raymon T.............he has a vast amount of knowledge about this epp. and its greatness and the animation errors in it.

Unfortunately, yes, that's why he's not around as often right now. I think it is a connectivity problem.

You read Conquest Cybertron, didn't you? 8)

Yeah, I have Unicron fiding Primacron after his battle with Primus in the Astral Plane and 'convince' him to build a new body for him. And Primus 'convinces' the assistant to create a self destruct, infusing it with his life force to destroy the body and spark of Unicron. A much better origin for him that doesn't contradict the toon. Retconning can be so much fun.

That still doesn't explain why Primus was non existant in the cartoon.

Well, the cartoon was an entirely different continuity. There was no need for the writers to mention Primus as he didn't exist.
