I mean, they're my 3 favorite characters, but I'd be all for new shows featuring entirely new/never seen characters and leaders. And then maybe resurrect them a few years later to create some buzz? I'd love to see what they would come up with.

They tried killing optimus prime, megatron and starscream in 80's and well let just say I don't think hasbro will ever try that one again. It was a public relation nightmare parents were up in arms over the fact that they killed optimus prime and can't remember what else happend but I'm sure someone else will fill in blanks.

I mean, don't actually kill them, just ignore them in the next few shows, as if they never existed.

Ever heard of Transformers Victory? It didn't have Prime, Megs and Starscream.

Yes Make the Leader Ultra Magnus.
Technically Optimus Prime was only in a few episodes of Beast Wars and beast Machines. same with starscream.
not sure how to count megatron there.

Yep. And they should do it again.
Personally, I've always seen Optimus Prime as a Prime, as he was made to look/act/sound like one. Same with Megatron.

Yeah, I could dig a new series that would be like TF: 2510 or something. New characters with a very few old ones. New leaders, new enimies, broaden the series out.

I did a thread about that about 5 months ago, and people said I was crazy...
I always thought that they could do a mini series that focused on some other characters in a leadership role.. similar to how Optimus Primal was in beast Wars...
Only in this mini series they were not Optimus or Megatrons..what about the Gobots characters, with Leader-1 as the Autobot commander and his troops of Autobot Guardians versus Cy-Kill and his Renegade Decepticons? that would be cool.. and it would give Hasbro a chance to update those characters into a new toy line..

Optimus and Megs could be off in another part of the universe some wheres, mentioned but never really seen in the show..

Ha! If those updated Gobots existed, I would buy them right away. Cy-Kill and Leader-1 have to be resurrected.

I've mentioned here an there about updated Go-Bots. I'd definitely buy them. They could easily be incorporated into TF lore.
Love those updated looks BTW. I've mentioned Go-Bots at the TFCC and Pete made a jest/comment about how they won't do that, but then added a maybe. So ya never know.

I think Hasbro like to have Optimus in every line because he's a guaranteed sell. But it could be very interesting to take him out of the mix for a while.
You could do all sorts of interesting storylines. Maybe without an obvious leader the autobots split up into factions, and it's up to Ultra Magnus and Prowl to try to hold things together.
Meanwhile you could have Cykill and some of the other Renegades arrive on the scene and form a mutually beneficial alliance with the Decepticons.
Love those updated Gobots. What did you use for Cykill and Leader 1?

Bring back Optimus Primal in a story as he re-unites with his fellow Maximals that did survive Beast Machines and are somehow back on Earth after the TF animated movie.
And yes I did like BeastWars and BeastMachines. =D

If they didnt use the names/characters Optimus Prime, Megatron and Starscream, then Hasbro would lose their copyrights/trademarks of the names.
That and Hasbro would just throw in Characters that have different names but more or less the same character traits.

I presume this is what happened to Hot Rod. Any idea how many years would have to lapse before they'd lose the copyrights? Surely it's something they could safely do for maybe a year or 2.

I don't know if Hot Rod ever was copyrighted, it's a too generic name.
Not sure on the times either, if differs country to country, item to item.

Yeah, maybe. But that means they're now using 'Hot Rodimus' only because it is trademarkable. Despite it being a stupid name.

they used Rodimus Major for the reissue. Not a bad name that.

Ok, now I could go with this. I always wanted to see what it'd be having some one who's as good as Optimus (hell, might even be better according to what they say about him in his bio - despite not being a matrix chosen

) . Have either a non-Megatron Galvatron or Thunderwing as the new leader of the Decepticons.
Or hell I got a better one

How about
Ultra Magnus and the Wreckers vs. the Fallen (what ever that new faction that appeared at the end of Escalation is called) led by..........................
NOVA PRIME

I agree. The "IMUS" shouldn't not be used until or if he gets the Matrix. Until then, Rodimus just sounds stupid with the title of Prime being attached to it.

i love those looks to the gobots.
love the show too, but i strongly believe that the gobots don't belong in the transformers universe at all. heck there not even robots.
i'm getting some funding together so i can produce my own gobot fan comic and have all the money go to a charity. i have already written most of what i think would be a four issue series, set after the rocklord movie.

Personally, I've always seen Optimus Prime as a Prime, as he was made to look/act/sound like one. Same with Megatron.
Headmasters did it after the third episode, Masterforce did it cause Ginrai was just a Prime look-alike. RiD almost did it, cause Megatron was known as Gigatron in Japan, and Hasbro just stuck a new name on him so he'd sell.
But I am so for a show without Prime, cause ever since RiD, Prime has been so dang boring. Megatron hasn't been much better in my opinion. And Starscream went from being a completely fresh take on the character(Armada), to being an underused lacky(Energon), to homaging his G1 namesake, and becoming interesting again(Cybertron).

I think Cybertron Starscream surpassed his G1 self, in terms of treachery and gaining of power without Megatron's help. I think Animated will continue his deceptive, devious scheming ways.
Animated Prime and Megatron should also be refreshingly different in Animated, hopefully in a good way.

Maybe they could do a series that has a bunch of shortie episodes on other Autobot/Decepticon bases in other parts of the world. Why only keep things in America? And Megatron or O. Prime could truely be seen as the top leaders, but you don't need to always see them. The Decepticons that are in the other parts of the world would be doing their part to undermine the world governments, and the Autobots would be trying to stop them. Each of these subgroups would be headed by their own leader, and these leaders would answer to their own top faction leader. It would be modern, plus it would show just how bad the fighting really is. Plus you could have the 'Cons try to actually claim the Earth for themselves, instead of trying to destroy it. If they can't have Cybertron, why not stake a claim on another planet rich in the resources your species needs? And if you are clever enough, you can use the laws of your own kind to keep your enemie from being able to dispute your claim.

I am enjoying Razorbeast as a maximal commander in the comics. I hope Lio isn't to prime like when he arrives.

Zone in its one episode entirety, was Prime-less.
Yes, I know the comic had his return.
Energon tried no Megatron to start. It failed.
I could go with Prime not being the immediate leader and focus of the good guys at the beginning.
