1) Because the movie was written/being animated before Season 2 started.

2) Because they goofed.

Win.

Season 2 characters were all but omitted from the movie, as the series was being made at the same time as the Movie, only some S2 characters made it into some storyboards, never to be put into the actual movie.

Wombatking had some pics of the "missing" storyboards.

There have been a few rummers that I've heard that state that Hasbro didnt have the rights to use the likeness's of Snarl and Omega in a movie.Trade marl guide lines of the 80's made no sence at all.

I'm not saying this is fact but its what I heard once.

Omega, along with Jetfire, was licensed from another company.

But the license only expired years after the TF movie.

But wasnt Snarl from Takara along with the other dinobots?

And none of the other Gestalt groups appeared in the movie.

Dont forget Shockwave ,he was also licensed from another company but what I'm saying is that even thou they had the rights to put him on tv they couldnt use him in a movie.

And Snarl was from Takara but I heard [and dont quote me] that the designer of the toy was sueing Takara for selling his toys likeness to Hasbro and thats why they didnt use him.Not the story is most likely BS but I thought it was intersting.
And I heard all this crap at a convention I went to a long time ago.

Shockwave was in the movie, he even said:
"Were under attack!"

All dinobots were in the movie, just strangely snarl just appeared in little background clips.

And all the Gestalts and Omage were missing, cos, now this is what I think:
They wanted the Guys from the first few seasons to die, and let the movie look real dark and unplesent for kids.
So if Omega would have been there, he would have kicked all the Cons singlehandedly!

Omega and all the gestalts apart from Devastator were missing because the movie was being made before those characters were brought in. Simple as.

I find it funny when people say they were missing because series 2 was not finished when they worked on the movie.

Blitzwing. Astrotrain. The Coneheads. They are all series 2 characters that appeared. The combiners, fair enough as they didn't appear till late in the series, but the likes of Red Alert, Tracks, Skids, Smokescreen had no excuse. I know many where in the unused storyboards, but they still never appeared on screen.

I'm still going with a combination of "they didn't know which characters were going to be introduced and therefore didn't have animation models for them" and "they goofed." TFTM.net cites the movie as being written in 1984. Season 2 began airing in September '85. Sounds reasonable to me that people writing in '84 wouldn't know which characters would be introduced in late Season 2.

Don't know about Omega, but I think Snarl was just a goof. I read somewhere that the script called for four Dinobots, and whenever Snarl DOES appear, Swoop is absent.

And I also read somewhere that the reason why the Scramble Combiners weren't in the movie was because they were in development at the time of the movie, and they didn't quite know what they would look like yet.

I didnt say Shockwave wasnt in the movie......just that he was bought from an other company. He was not a Takara owned toy.

Yep. In fact, it was a pretty common practice back then.

Very true. Perceptor and Blaster were also season 2 characters.

How did Shockwave make it into the cartoon right from episode #1 when he wasn't a 1984 toy?

Maybe Hasbro was halfway into securing the license for the Shockwave mold when The Transformers: Part One came out?

Thank you. I was trying to think of some series 2 Autobots, but couldn't think of any. Surely Omega was designed around the same time all of these guys were, since he appeared around the same time in the series. Infact, Astrotrain's first speaking part was Omega's first episode. And one that focused on Blaster. (Blaster Blues).

Are you talking about the opening with the lava and the Insecticons? That was season 2.

I don't recall Omega, Blitzwing or Astrotrain in Season 1's opening at all.

But they are, and yes it's the Lava one.
At least it's that way on my Sony wonder DVD box.

The one with lava is season 2's opening (it has Grimlock and Swoop in it, correct?). Season 1's started with the three Seekers running in robot form.

That's the Season 2 opening. Hence a load of Season 2 characters being in it. Season 1 opening. Accept no substitutes.

That's real weired, MTMTE starts like that, but at least half of the rest start with the lava one!
But I think I have the explanation, it says on the box that it's been remastered, so they screwed up a bit.
Sorry.

My UK Sony VHS tapes do that. Some episodes on the season 1 box set have season 2's opening with season 3's version of the music, too!
