Here's what i don't get, is why in the movie Optimus prime die's and all that happens is he lose's colour, but when Ultra Magnus dies he explodes into massive chunks of his former self.

But then they just get the Junkions to, glue and polish him back together, surely they could of done the same for prime.

Or they could of kidnapped a Quint to revive him, because thats what they did in the episode "The return of Optimus prime".

Surely they didn't care about him enough to try everything, all they did do was strap him up to some type of colour monitor and let Perceptor look at him in his Telescope mode. :-?

to me they just wanted to kill off prime for the time being not caring what had to be done, but then people like me and other optimusprime fans were livd to see our charachter just die from that when ive seen him get beaten up worse in the series
thank goodness he returned later in season 3
i hope that answeres your question

One, they didn't know the Junkions as Prime died.
Two, they didn't know the Quintesons as Prime died.

i don't know if he'd really taken worse beatings in the cartoon. sure he got beat up bad some times, but in the movie he had a couple of holes in him. and sparky lightning stuff.

Keeping in mind they are machines. Machines can taken apart and rebuilt hours or years after they have been dismantled, unlike us stupid, frail, non-compartmentalized organic meatbags.

If Ultra Magnus was blown into pieces, as long as his vital components survived he could be restored. In Prime's case some vital component that absolutely could not have been restored may have been destroyed. Or at least something that only the Quintesson had the specialist skills to repair. Though I find that hard to believe. If his brain was still functioning when he died there was no excuse for not saving Prime. It was a silly oversight used for the sake of taking out the original cast.

well the one i can think off offhand was divide and conquer where he was beaten up pretty bad, that his chest exploded so to me he had a hole there and he suffered just as much or even more damage then in the movie
thats just the first situation i thought of

The reason Magnus went to pieces is because he was suppossed to be drawn and quartered there, not shot to bits. If you watch the sweeps fire, they shoot out a continuious beam. That was suppossed to be ropes they would tie to his limbs and just pull him apart. This would explain how he was easily stuck back together. But they decided it was too graphic and violent, so they just made him explode. Which clearly isnt too graphic and violent.

As for Divide and Conquer, Ratchet and Wheeljack was there to help maintain him on life support while he got repaired. Both were dead in the movie and Perceptor is a scientist, not a medic. If Ratchet was there, perhaps Prime could have been saved. But other than that, I can't think of any time when he took a worse beating than the movie.
