Sound effects in the G1 series

I'm new, so forgive me if this has been brought up before, but has anyone else noticed that the sound effects in the G1 cartoon series are lifted right out of Star Wars and Star Trek?
All the Decepticon plane noises are X-wings or TIE-fighters. The sound FX for the energon cubes sound just like light sabers. The door and computer sounds are lifted right out of Star Trek.
Am I nuts or anyone else notice this?
Any other weird effects anyone ever noticed?
The other question I have is how did they get away with it? Were these effects just on a reel someplace for anyone to use?
Just wondering.

I don't recall hearing the TIE noise. But these sound effects are used in media right across the board. It's not unusual to hear them in several different shows and movies.

I think the episode where constructicons/decepticons are under a human city, doing whatever they are doing, Lazerbeak is flying around and has the Tie Fighter engine noise quite often.

Just stock sound effects. I've noticed that in some episodes of Headmasters, the guns sometimes sound like Battlestar Galactica blasters (not the new abomination, the proper BSG). Oh, and the scream Ben Kenobi uses to scare the Sand People away in the old version of Episode 4 was later used as the "howl" Airwolf made.

the sound effect from Empire Strikes Back, when 3P0 gets shot in Bespin, is reused a lot, not just in TF, but I always remember it as Rodimus Prime's gun.

In the episode "Enter the Nightbird", I seem to recall the robot ninja using a light sabre with the proper sound effects.

Many of the Star Wars Sound effects cannot be copyrighted due to them either being too short in length, or because they are not distinct enough.
So they have more or less become stock standard sound effects for everything from Uni projects to Radio advertisements...
