Beast Wars Profile Book out today - reaction thread (spoilers)

I just wanted to start a thread for people to post their unedited opinions of the first issue of the Beast Wars Profile book. I havn't read through it all yeat, but here are my quick reactions.

Airazor - A not to her Primeval Dawn storyline in her Transmetal notes.
Apache/B'Boom - seperate profiles were the way to go, IMHO. Apache has a "Mode 3" while B'Boom is a "triple-changer".
Arachnid - Maybe Tarantulas' lair in season was just Arachnid Base, burried under ground?
BB - Miscolored gold.
Beetle - I'm so glad they made reference to the McDonalds toys.
Bigmos - While several others for a third mode, they actually call Bigmos a "triple-changer".
Blackarachnia - Oddly miscolored gold. They mention her McDonalds toy.
Break - He has a "Targetmaster" mode? Weird
Cybershark - They make an explanation as to his normal and TM2 forms. Oddly they mistakenly use his TM2 robot form for the robot, but normal mode for beast mode.
Dinobot II - I see mention of his McDonalds toy in the Transmetal section. Cool. They missed mentioning his paralysis ray, which is on his original tech spec and he used once in the TV show.
Doublepunch - Not in alphabetical order. Weird.
Drill Nuts - Gotta love this guy.

I'm enjoying this. I was a little disapointed at the Big Convoy pic though. Been waiting for this for a while. Hope you're feeling some relief Darth Bombshell. :D

I enjoyed Big Convoys pic. But perhaps that's just because I havnt been able to find a large quantity of quality pics of him.

I flipped through it so far, looking forward to reading some more.

Pretty good, but they seemed too short.

And I was seriously hoping for Cybertron (pre-Earth modes) for those we have seen.

And curiously, some of them feature their third mode, and some are only described. :-?

So Cicadacon was what former Decepticon? I'm not sure his bio matched any that I remember.

I assume the G1 Insecticon, Venom, who turned into a Cicada. But without reading the Bio, I don't know.

I got the first 2 issues of The Ascending & the first of the Sourcebook sold by my local comic store!
Hehe, They hadn't put them on the shelves & specially opened the box up for me as I'm such a frequent visitor.

I loved the book, pure win. But I was expecting it to be selling at the usual comic price, I got there & had to pass on Devastation to get it. (Yes, I got two Ascendings but passed on Devastation :P )
I didn't like the artwork on Dinobot, oddly coloured, however I loved the golder look to Blackarachnia, it made her look more like the non-TM version. I liked how the McDonalds toys got a mention. And of course I loved the artwork on Claw Jaw, pure beautiful.

First off, I don't have any kids. Second off, the fact that I spent nearly the entire time I was at work today fuming at the fact that the comic shop I ordered them at didn't get them (and that I had to get them there because I couldn't go to the place I usually get them because of work) should say that, regardless of whether or not I like them, I'm gonna be pretty pissed I had to bend so far backward to get them I might as well be a frickin' paraplegic.

Which isn't good, because having read people's reviews both here and at IDW's boards, the first issue's got some stumbling blocks.

Why the hell do Big Convoy, Depth Charge, Blackarachnia, and Dinobot get 1 page and weak profiles when Big Mos (The F?) gets a two pager?

Because Big Mos has a weakness for tomato juice, silly.

That is a good question.

I like getting more info, and I found these to be seriously lacking in detail.

Bigmos was cool with three modes, but there are many others with 3 modes.

I assume it is because the cartoon characters will not be featured as highly as some of these others that they are putting on larger pages.

Of course, Cheetor ruins that theory, but it sounded good.

Okay, I haven't read any of it yet so I can't really review any of the bios but I have to say that the art is disappointing. Even the colors that are correct are just very jarring. I almost didn't buy it.

I'm a bit disappointed by the inconsistancy on third modes. Sometimes they call it "triple changer", "mode 3", "targetmaster", "third form". Pick one and stick with it.

I think all of that was purposely character specific.

BW Neo stuff was 'Mode 3'. American non-show characters were 'triple changers'. I think Beak has some direct reference to being a 'Targetmaster weapon', but I'm not really sure I remember that correctly.

Not really, as the two named "triple-changers" were Bigmos (Japan) and B'Boom (US). It seemed sorta random. Probably written by different authors who didn't bother making up a style before hand. Plus Bigmos' third mode is an animal, while B'Boom is a gun emplacement, so there seems to be no pattern either.

Oddly, in the old commercial for Depth Charge they called him a triple changer (even if his box said 3-mode conversion). They didn't say Triple Changer for him.

Meanwhile the "Targetmaster mode" was Break's gun emplacement. No other gun emplacement third mode was called a Targetmaster, even through Coroda and Apache have them.

It is a bit all over the shop, and a bit thin on details.

Cheetor deserved more than a double page, he did not even get his TM2 modes shown.

Overall I wish that IDW had have just released this straight in trade format, these books are rather thin and flimsy for my likening. For the price though, I cannot complain.

Got it yesterday. Spent all of my non-work time going over it. I don't really have the time right now to go into detail about how I feel about it (I'll do that tomorrow), but I will say that it isn't as good as I thought, nor as bad as I expected it to be.

If anything IDW have done that deserve a "meh" it's this isn't it?

Not really. I mean, I'm glad it's out, and it's really good, but (and I can't believe I'm saying this) if they had taken another month to fix some of these small nagging errors, it would have been perfect.

front page and credited ;;)

:P j/k

but if there are so many 'small nagging errors' I wonder if they could fix it before TPB :-?

But that would cost money that the editor who missed these 'nagging errors' is likely spending about now.

 and they can still count on me to by the TPB... I'm weak...

I was thinking DepthCharge would count as a triplechanger and a targetmaster. His gun is a trasforming shark/fish drone like some Action masters had.

You'd think they could at least fix the color errors on Blackarachnia and BB before printing it in a trade.

I agree with the idea of Depth Charge being a Targetmaster Triplechanger.

There are alot of spelling omissions, words like "of" and "the" missing on various pages.

I still feel that a little disclaimer saying what series/comics the characters featured in would have been really nice.
