The battle beasts have a couple of cameo's in the Takara series Headmasters. It's set 1 year after the return of Optimus Prime, completely ignores Rebirth and gives it's own take on things.

There is a really bad dub out there, but you should get the subbed version. It's better. Metrodome released it last year in a box set, but it's Region 2. I don't know if it's out anywhere in America.

Nice Avatar, BTW.

I have no idea. You can get region free DVD players, but wouldn't you also need a PAL TV, instead of NTCSS or whatever it is over there. I'm afraid I'm not technically knolwedgable about such things, so I refer you to the Play DVD's from anywhere in the world thread. Someone there should be able to help with your query.

But if you are only interested in the Battle Beasts, it isn't worth it. They feature mainly in one episode and one of them makes a cameo in another. They may make a single cameo in a third (I can't remember exactly), but that's it.

No, it's part of G1 - Headmasters took place in 1987 and Generation 2 started in 1996.

Basically season 1-3 of the original animated series took place in both the US and Japan, but then the US series ended with a 3 episode special "The Rebirth" in the US.

The Japanese didn't want the series to end, so they ignored these last three episodes, and then continued the story line in Japan in their own direction. The first season of these Japanese episodes had the Transformers landing on the planet Beast and meeting the "Beastformers" (aka the Battle Beasts).

I have a question about the time frame you gave. You said that the Japanese headmasters is set 1 year after the return of Optimus but....It was my understanding that the Japanese headmasters takes place in the year 2011......and the return of optimus takes place in 2006.Was the information you stated taken from some offical source or was it conjecture???

As Thundcerthruster said, the third series was moved to 2010. That's why the toyline is called Transformers 2010 in Japan.

I believe the movie was still set in 2005, and there was a 5 year grace period between the movie and FFOD, unlike the English version which has, maybe a couple of weeks. I could be wrong, but IIRC, Chris Mcfreely says on the commentary for episode one that Daniel was suppossed to be 10 in the movie, and this is set about 5 years later, making him the most immature 15 year old in the history of Ever. I'll give it a watch and report back.

That is correct. He should have technically been 15 but obviously was not(or sure as hell didn't act like it).

Don't even get me started on Daniel and "Uncle Sixshot". God, my mind aches every time I think about it. #-o #-o

I don't think he/she would need a PAL TV. I have a multi-region DVD player and I don't need an NTSC TV so I'd imagine it works the same the other way around.

Fair enough.

According to McFreely, Daniel was scripted as 12 in the movie. He celebrated a birthday in series 3 and Headmasters is 1 year later, so he's 14. I have no idea when the movie is set in Japanese continuity, but remember they didn't get it until 89 so there might be a large gap between them, there may not be.

Despite Season 3 being set in 2010, the movie is still set in 2005, meaning Daniel should have been nearly 18 by the time of Headmasters! Kiss Players actually patched this hole by explaining that Daniel was being held in suspended animation out in space for the five-year interim (not sure where or why, though), which stopped him from ageing in between.

Ah. I wasn't sure if there was a 5 year gap or not. Thanks for the info. Learnt alot from your Takara commentaries.
