First post so hello everyone.

I saw the trailer on the G1 movie DVD that the entire G1 series was going to be remastered and released in 2007.

Is this going to happen or not? Because I can't find them anywhere.

Um alot of stuff has happened. Alot of copyrights and such switching hands.

The short story is there is no official yes. They were planned but it was moved to sometime early 2008. If you cant wait, you can buy the seasons at your local anime store (I Did). They're in english and everything. Though the boxes look nothing like the rhino dvd versions, they are the rhino dvd versions.

Yeah, I was hoping to wait for the new ones.

I'll go ahead and get the Rhino versions if I have to but it's disappointing for sure.

The only thing they have on Amazon is this one:

http://www.amazon.com/TRANSFORMERS-Gene ... 926&sr=8-4

Are these at least halfway decent? I figure they can't be all that great but there don't appear to be a lot of choices, and the price is pretty good.

If your DVD can take them, I strongly recommend the Region 2 sets. Much cheaper than most of the others (esp. Rhino) and better quality, with some extras!

If the new G1 DVDs are anything like the remastered 1986 movie release, they are going to be worth the wait.

Is Sony releasing these shows? I went looking for some older versions, but none were formatted to my DVD player region. I thought about getting a new DVD player, but if they are being re-released I think I'll just wait. Are they definitely coming out?

Why'd you want to get a new DVD player? Your old one can probably be made region free with just a few button pushs.

I can't remember any offical statment that a new region 1 version of the cartoon is forthcoming.

Purely spekulation? Or are there rumours? The clean-up job on the movie blew me away. So much so that I watched it 2 and a half times in a row (I fell asleep the 3rd time through-very late and much alcohol) as soon as I got it. It looks like they made it yesterday.
Obviously with the quality of much of the G1 cartoon being so far below par with the movie I'd not expect a remastered version to be that good but even so for some episodes it'd be really good.
Another idea for them would be for someone to go in and digitally correct the many animation errors. Of course that'd take time and money that is probably not available for a lowly 80s cartoon show, but just imagine it. Correctly coloured seekers, people's bodies staying the same colours within scenes, maybe even not having one character start talking and then another cutting to another who seems to be miming along with them. Ah, 'tis a grand dream.

They were listed as coming soon on the extras of the 1986 movie DVD. I assumed that Sony was going to be releasing them. I'll have to dig up my movie to confirm that, and I want to say they claimed it was going to be remastered.

No need to research the movie for that. The branch of Sony that was supposed to bring out G1 has since been dissolved. The liscences are supposedly held by someone else now, but no solid information so far.

I know that branch closed but I thought Sony was holding the rights to the Sunbow stuff, not the subsidiary that was putting out the kids DVDs. I just can't imagine Sony letting the rights to the original Transformers series go, especially when they knew the movie was just around the corner. They also had the rights to GI Joe as well and Rhino never completed the set of DVD seasons. It seems that no one is coming forward with who owns the right but I doubt they are in limbo.

I've got that box set in the Amazon link. I have no complaints, the book is pretty sweet too, it's just all in chinese.
