i see a store here linked on this site that is selling the "best of the transformers" 2 disc set for around $30. how is this 10 episode collection? this is in english and good quality? these are from the first generation?

and for the headmasters, i see that it is a japaneese co. that continued on the classics with new episodes? how is this? in english?

THANKS for any input about these two dvds!

What store would this be? Madman?

If so, then the seet you are talking about is this one here.

It contains 10 G1 Episodes: More Than Meets the Eye Parts 1 - 3, SOS Dinobots, Dark Awakening, Heavy Metal War, The Golden Lagoon, Call of the Primitives, Starscream's Brigade and Ghost in the Machine. over 2 discs for AU$30, and is a region 4 DVD set. (meaning you need a Computer/multi-region DVD player to watch it.)

The Headmasters Release from Madamn is due out in just over a week, but it is the Japanese Show with an English Dub. I guess people will be able to tell you how good it is in about a week.

so if i have a new dvd player (just bought a panasonic surround system for my plasma) it should be able to play these discs? region 4 dvd players, are they considered this title at what point, less than a year or two old?

It has nothing to do with age of the DVD player, and everything to do whether the DVD Player will play DVD's from other areas.

The Madman DVD's are region 4, and thus can be played in Australia, the Pacific Isles, Mexico, Caribbean, and South America.
The USA and Canada are Region 1, while Region 2 is Europe and South Africa.

To play DVD's from a region other than your own, you have to "hack" your DVD player. this can be done easily on many newer DVD players, for more info, check out Ryan's thread.

if they're anything like the region 2 metrodome release, the headmasters gives both the star TV dub, and the original japanese audio with subs.

And you won't want to be using the English dub too often anyway, as it's so hideously bad it hurts the head. It makes so much more sense if you just watch it in Japanese and use the subtitles...

I have an inkling that Madman may have more than the Star Dub version for "English". Im not sure, and I wont be certain until I can find the release sometime in the next few weeks. I'll certainly post info about it if more than the Star Dub is released.

chances are it'll only be the star tv dubs, because as far as i'm aware the only other english dubs are fan dubs!

Ditto; I don't think anyone else has officially dubbed it. And I don't think any fandubs have as yet gone beyond the first episode or two anyway.
