It's from Dreamwave's first G1 mini-series, issue #2 I believe. I'm pretty sure the mini-series came out in TPB form under the name "Prime Directives"
Soundwave's presence is a plot point that I won't reveal. I thought Vol. 1 was pretty neat myself, and had a somewhat original take on the G1 series.

It has been republished by IDW in tpb form, you should be able to find it in bookstores.

Trade Paper Back.
Means all issues of the series (usually 4 or 6) are collected together in a softcover book or around A4 size.

It has the occasional pretty picture, but all of Dreamwave's Transformers output (save for "The War Within") was absolute rubbish story-wise. They went over the top in trying to appeal to "Geewunn Fanboyz" and the result was a mess. If you're going to spend money on a TF comic book for the pictures, go for some IDW output!

cool thanks for clearing that up, i was hoping TPB would mean all the issues in one book. I have the war within TPB because i was interested in the TF cybertronian modes but wasn't too impressed with the story, kind of a mish mash of scenes going on. really liked the designs though.
I'll be looking out for the prime directives just for curiosity

I agree! Well, that's what I thought when I re-read a few months ago(the original mini, not Dark Ages, haven't read that). The first issue is good, but after that it's mainly a fight between Optimus and Megatron, barely any characterization going on.
I prefer Prime Directives myself. It may not be as good as IDW or some Marvel, but I think they pack a more interesting story into six issues. It has some cool scenes in it too.

Prime Directives was a n alright tpb, but I don't think I would have cared for it much in single issues.
Bar the Movie adaptations, Id take anything IDW has done over the DW tripe.

Did IDW do the TF evolutions? (where bumblebee is a train etc?) coz i'd have to say that story wise it was superb and i liked the alternative take on the alt modes. I would have loved to see Prime in it though, was a bit of a shame.
the design for shockwave was pure genious lol i'd have loved to have seen him do more damage though.

Yes, IDW did that. I never read it myself, though (apart from the previews).

It was not a bad series, but it suffered from page count problem that other 4 parters have also suffered from (Stormbringer, Beast Wars: The Gathering) where the story built up well, then just ended on a kinda flat note.
The art and alt mode where damn impressive, Starscream being the main bad was also good.
