The Universe of the Transformers is vast, and populated by many characters. Their universe is a large tapestry, made up of the stories and points of view of countless experiences that serve the larger whole.

These are some of those stories. This is:

It should be noted that while this project has been recognized by IDW Publishing and Hasbro, none of the works presented have been commissioned or solicited by either company. The stories are not official canon, except where noted.
These stories are the result of Transformers enthusiasts taking the time out of their busy days to contribute to a universe they love.
No one has been paid for the production of these stories.

Today's piece is called “Break Away”. Story and Art by Lindsay (Neko) Smith, Colors by Rafael (Fargnay) Yanes, Letters by Bernie (Blee) Lee, Edits by Josh (Richter) van Reyk.

I LOVE this piece. Lindsay has captured Silverbolt really well for me, and it's no secret I'm a huge fan of her art.

Same with Raf's colours, I can't say enough good things about them, that skyline is stunning!.

Bernie once again showing why he's the "letters" man!!

Look for more work from all of these guys in future Mosaics.

Nice Mosaic. I never really got to know Silverbolt, so I hadn't known he had this in his character. If this piece were to evolve into a larger mini-comic, it would be interesting to watch his internal hesitance versus his leadership role in his team, and whether his discomfort with flight is linked to other fears about his identity or place in the world. Is this the Silverbolt we know from the G1 cartoon, created recently on Earth, or does he have different backstory in the relevant comic continuity?

To the creators, great work!

I don't really like his eyes here, but other than that, this is awesome.

Fantastic work. Silverbolt was always one of my favorite characters. His fear really humanized him, making him a more likeable character.

The only complaint I have is the glow around his eyes. Other than that awesome piece.

Awesome art work, but I didn't realize that Silverbolt was affraid to fly. I am just curious where that idea came from. Overall though nice job.

Thank you, Neko, for writing a story about my second favorite Autobot. :D

Being someone who can't so much as stand on a stepstool without getting panicky and dizzy, I always had a lot of respect for someone who could be afraid of something so intrinsic to their being... yet brave enough to go up and be a fighter and leader anyway. In his free time, I could see him brooding and beating himself up a little over his fears... kind of like this, actually. ;)

I like how elegant the writing is; it flows despite being short. That's something I've still never been able to pull off with my own "short" writing. (I'm much too naturally wordy. :P )

As for the art... I'm also a little hesitant over the eye glow, although it's more of a "very different" reaction than a "don't like" reaction. The rest of it is lovely. My favorite panels are the one with the bird landing on his shoulder (I like his expression), and the majestic-ness the last panel.

Edit:

From his tech spec bio. It also factors into the Aerialbots' introduction episode, "The Key to Vector Sigma". (I haven't read that many of the TF comics yet, so I don't know if it shows up in any of those, too.)

In the G1 cartoon, Silverbolt had a fear of flying. In order to help him overcome this, Optimus gave Silverbolt the responsibility of being the leader of the group. As Silverbolt was given an additional responsibility, he found himself usually worrying more about looking out for his teammates than his own personal fears, though the initial fear itself is still there.

I believe there is a Dinobot (G1) mosaic in production. As far as an Armada Starscream one goes, I'm not sure. Haven't seen any previews for one.

And thanks everyone. I love the colors Raf did. A lot of people don't seem to like the lense flare affect, but my god it just made this entire piece pop!

I didnt think you could be this serious Neko!

Congrats on the work, I have been waiting for this piece since I first saw the preview art for it months ago. Great use of an under-utilised character trait.

Nice one, Neko. The only thing that bugs me is scale. That must be one huge bird!
