Whatever happen to the Protoforms?

In the Beast Wars show. In the first episode, whenever the Maximal and Predacon ships were batting, and crashed on Earth, Optiums Primal said to get all the Protoforms, off the ship so they will be safe.

Now, as far as I can tell, their were alot of Protoforms. And, in the show, only 5(?) came down.

And, in the ending, the Maximals, as far as I know, didn't go pick them back up!

So, what happen to them? I know, their was Beast Machines, but I never really watched it and it took place on Cybertron, but did it say what happend to all those Protoforms?

Their is also, the IDW comics. I only, read the one that came with 10th Anniversary Optimus Primal. It looks like more came down. But, how many? I know that IDW has a Beast Wars comic series. Does it explain what happend to the Protoforms?

I know, the writers must have had all those Protoforms, because, they may not know how many charachers would be in the show, and better be safe than sorry.

It is just something, I thought about.

There are several ideas on this, one being that after the Nemesis was destroyed they where collected off screen same as G1 Megatron's spark was restored.

Others claim that BeastWars The Gathering is answer enough.

What I make of it though, and this is only to make sense of 1 very out of place toy line. During the quantum surge most where cast into space. Being adrift for many lightyears at a record speed, they found themselves with whiped clean data bases in a galaxy far far away...

Just to expand on what Liege said about The Gathering (the first volume of IDW's BW comics) the book sees the Predacon general Magmatron travel back to BW era Earth intent on reprograming the unrecovered protoforms as Predacon troops. Maximal double agent Razorbeast scuppers his plans somewhat and some of the protoforms retain their Maximal identities. This allowed the book to utalise various toys that never made an appearance in the show, while not interfering with the established show continuity due to all of the new arrivals and the protoforms that they revived being 'chronally displaced'.

The IDW comics are probably about the most 'canon' answer to the question that we've had so far but as with anything that's not covered in the original source material you'll have to make up your own mind on whether that works for you or you prefer a different explanation.

In the beginning of season 2 all the pods crashed to earth. Some were activated, some lay dormant, some died.

The 3H Enterprises story Transformers: Universe - The Wreckers also states that before Optimus Primal and his crew left at the end of Beast Wars they scanned the planet for any surviving Protoforms, and discovered none had survived. Of course we all now know that the pods were out of phase thanks to Magmatron, so Primal couldn't detect them.

They did? I must have missed that! I always thought that the pod that was used with the Transmetal driver in season 3 had crashed very recently, ah well!

That worked out well for Furman then didn't it? :P

Seems so strange that the series went from "race to the protoform" to "oh they are all dead, whoops" so quickly.

Thanks.

I was just thinking about it. I like the IDW version. That way, we get more Transformers that were not in the show, but have a toy. So, they don't get left out.
