Maybe somebody can help me - I used to have some real poor versions of Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, Zone, Scramble City that I got on eBay way back. They were so poor that I just got rid of them and never really bothered with watching anything except Headmasters. Presently I would like to purchase good quality productions of these Japanes series. Does anybody have real information and experience with what sets might be real good presentations of these?
What should be avoided? Should one look for Dubbed versions or Subtitled? Where is the best place(s) to go looking for these series? I am ignorant of the best quality Japanese stuff. Anybody know ?????
Thanks - M.S.G.

well that depends on where in the world you are.
cause over this side of the pond (the U.K.) we had the metrodome release's, which are rather good, withe headmasters coming with both the origanl japanese subbed and the star tv(wank) dub, masterforce and victory just came with the subs.
Madman have just started to release takara in australia, and i believe that they are the exact same for the episodes.

I'm in United States - Massachusetts. For a good set I would send pretty much anywhere, as long as they'll do business. I did hear about a LOT of Asian stuff - that's why I ask. With everything out there there must be a lot of trash. Must be something excellent as well. Hopefully!

I just got my Madman's release of Headmaster's this past Friday and spent the weekend watching it. Not a completist, but I know that I wanted the rest of the japanese continuation of G1 and I've enjoyed watching this series this past weekend. I live in the US and had to get a region free/pal dvd player. You can pick one up for $25-$50 at your local Walmart or K-mart. Just look to see if the DVD player has NTSC and PAL as a playable format. I forgot the brand that I picked up, but I would recomment COBY if you can find it. You can also purchase online from Walmart.
The english dub is still the same hookie dub, but I played the dub and the US translation at the same time to see what/if there were differences. Not much. The quality is pretty good. I had a set from EBAY to awhile ago and that was just not viewable. Just to choppy. I paid about $67 and some change to get it and now I can't wait for Madman to release Masterforce and Victory. The subtitle option is cool because you do get to choose between original japanese dialogue/names (Optimus Prime=Convoy) and a western sub title track where Prime is Prime, Twincast=Twincast and not Blaster and whatnot.
Delivery time was excellent too. I ordered it on the 7th or 8th of the month and received it in the mail Friday the 16th. Let me know if you have any more questions that I might be able to help you with.

Thanks very much for that info. Yes I just went over there to Madman entertainment and it looks very good. Hate to purchase another piece of equipment (not a money issue - just that I have so much stuff everywhere as it is) but if that's what it takes ... It will be very cool to see this stuff as I've watched G1 and read the comics (Us and Uk Marvel and everything else) a million times - All this Japanese stuff will be new to me.
Again thanks for the info.

It was pretty new to me also. I really wish that the US will someday get the release of these sets, but I didn't want to wait in the vains of a release. Was watching it with a buddy of mine and we couldn't figure out why the US won't release these. I know that there's no toy market, but I'm sure that there's still a DVD market out there. Whatever the reason, I'm just happy that Madman is releasing this set. You won't be disappointed. Other then the fact that Daniel and Wheelie are still major characters.

You do know Metrodome have already released on 3 series (and Zone) on DVD with the same subtitles Madman are using?

An Xbox 360 will play PAL dvds, as well as a computer cd player.
