Eric Holmes, writer of the upcoming Megatron Origins comics, sat down with CBR for an interview about how this comicbook came to be.

"The book is all about the origins of the war, the Decepticons and my favorite Transformer of all - Megatron. The project came about because as long as this war has been going on, I had never seen a definitive origin that gave a reason for things to end up the way they are in regular continuity. There's talk of a war, and gladiatorial battles and some general pursuit over the control of energy, but it was never tied up in a way that could you why".

"There'll be a bunch of other Transformers in the story, all a little tweaked from what you know. It's fun to imagine who is doing what before the war. The focus is mostly on the classic characters, the ones there right from the beginning. Prowl. Soundwave. Starscream. A few of the lesser-seen characters. Ratbat. Blades. A bunch of cameos of people in civilian life. We have a Prime, but it's not Optimus - it's Sentinel Prime. There are a lot of ideas in this. I honestly wish I had more pages - you could do a lot "before the war" and continue it as the war is spreading across the planet".

I wonder if this is going to lead up to Sentinel Prime's death at Megatron's hands, which might loosely tie it into the Furman-written first Dreamwave War Within saga.

Oddly enough the plot is so Deja-vu for me. Ha ..

I can tell this is gonna be good. Sentinal Prime, the only image we have of him is from WWI #1, & that's just his arm. I am perplexed as to why Blades is in there. I get Ratbat, Soundwave & Starscream obviously, but Blades just confuses me. Whatever, I can't wait for this.

I am very interested in this book. The only thing that bothers me is the inclusion of characters from season 2/3, though i don't know if they were around by the time Optimus and the others left Cybertron. I am also eager to see what Sentinel Prime would look like.... and if that's going to be the next Optimus Prime repaint. ^_^

The more I hear about this project the more I can not wait for it to hit comic stores.

I'd bet Blades appears as a Cybertronian that almost joins the Decepticons, or at least starts out in the gladiatorial rings before the war.

That would make sence.

Blades definately wasn't considered one of the nicest Autobots...and this guy becomes a Protectobot.

I wanna see where (and if) the Dinobots show up here.

Nice picture. While I'm sure it's intended to be melancholy or sorrow, I see a menace in Optimus' eyes that suggest to me he has murdered Sentinel and is stealing the Matrix for himself. I am now cautious of the cab-breasted one.

So it's as I suspected, it's basically a comic book retelling of how Temüjin became Ghengis Khan. Should be interesting.

Well, you can't go with something you haven't read, and I know I will read the Megatron origins.

It sounds good, and the Blades gladiator thing was a thought that I had too.

So this is even pre-War Within. I love this kind of stuff...not our own history as much, but TF history is quite cool.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this. I hope it lives up to my expectations. Nothing else has.
