That's not really what a hoax is. A hoax is when you say something exists when in reality it doesn't. It may have just been G1, but the show did exist. Besides, the beginning of G2 was mostly just G1 in different colors anyway.

I wouldn't call it a hoax, 'cause the show did happen. I thought it was a rather creative way to try and spice up an show that was at that point 8 or 9 years old. However, it ended up looking more rediculous and it really disappointed people that wanted a real G2 cartoon. Still, I think it's kinda neat to see commercials for it again.

what i like about G2 is that's what started me getting into TF's.

Perhaps "farce" is the word you were looking for? :)

. . . and I agree with ya, but we got some cool toys (and some not so cool) out of it :)

Yeah, hoax is definitely the wrong word - I think S-Quad hit the nail on the head, to be honest!
It was a tremendous disappointment, on the whole. When I first heard about it, I was quite excited, especially when I saw the new 'state-of-the-art' CGI title sequence. Then the cartoon started...and it was the same stuff I'd already seen. Except for the CGI scene-change segments, which were (and still are) incredibly annoying. The novelty wears off fast, and they usually wind up repeatedly chopping a second or so off the actual cartoon each time, meaning that someone often doesn't get a chance to finish their sentence!
If they were going to do a G2 cartoon, they should have just done it, rather than give us the 'repaint' version.

Most of the toys, however, rocked somewhat. I was a particular fan of Stealth Assault and Laser Rod Prime.

and lets not forget the lazer cycles and what would later be repainted as Robotmasters Mirage (or whatever his Japanese name is)

Hmm... the Lasercycles were good, but the proportions are odd, especially on Road Pig (actually, I think Road Rocket may have been my first fixer-upper, as I had to shave part of a balljoint to get his elbow to turn properly).
We never got the flipchanger figs here, as far as I know, so I couldn't comment on them. Besides, was he from G2? I thought the first incarnation of that was in Machine Wars.

Just checked, looks like you're correct. I always lump those two lines together in my mind. Neither having a show, both being bots to vehicles as opposed to Beast Wars. Both having terrible color schemes. Plus, there are jets in both lines that are near identical.

G2 would have rocked if they had done a new series in CGI like the commercials and the intro was!

yea, as a kid I always dreamed of that.
