Hallo thar, for Christmas I got the two compilation books of War Within and War Within: The Dark Ages. I did some research, and found there are more books from DW called Prime Directive. Does that series take place after WW/WWTDA? If so, does anyone know where I can get a compilation of PD?

EDIT: Heres something I found on eBay...is this it?

"Prime Directive" was Dreamwave's first miniseries, known for selling a large number of copies and for being the start of the steaming pile of garbage that was Pat Lee's handling of the franchise. It takes place after the War Within series, and, like it, was reprinted by IDW.
And yeah, that's it.

It's a collection of all the issues?

If prime directive was the initial 6 issue thing, with Lazaraus, I can say I've never seen a compilation book.
How I miss DW.

Yes, there are several more compilations set in the DW universe. Prime Directive gets followed by two more trade paperbacks and four more issues which don't have a bound edition since the series never saw closure. Darth Bombshell clearly doesn't care for them much. I like them. There's also TF: Micromasters, which more directly follows War Within. They're fun reads, but remember that they simply get cut off when IDW gained possession of the title. The IDW-verse has shaped up extremely well, and you can get most of what's happened so far in the enormous new hardbound premiere edition, which I just today received and am very happy with.

I never said I didn't like them, but in point of fact, a large majority of the fandom didn't. The stories for most of them, such as they were, were OK, and the art, when not done by Puffy Pat or Rushy Rob, was awesome.
The one actual miss, though, is "Micromasters". I doubt you'd find anyone who has anything nice to say about
that.

I liked it, but then again I only managed to get the first ish, stupid comic shop!

I bough it, and i hope I like it. Recently, I've been getting into the TF comics (recently read Infiltration, Stormbringer, and Devastation. SB was friggin awesome!). Anyone think PD's better than any of these 3?

Well the 3 you mentioned are from a different Publisher then Prime Directive.
I enjoyed Prime Directive and some of the other DW TF books but the IDW books [the ones you mentioned] are far better.

Yah I know. War Within was not as good as Stormbringer, but Infiltration was a bit...boring. Escalation was badass, and I am going to get some Devastation issues soon.

So I just finished reading it 9Prime Directive), and...
frag ME. It SUCKED. There are a bunch of things I didn't realize when I ewas buying it...
1. The lack of Simon Furman, the TF comic god. He's one of the best writers I've ever seen, and a TF comic without him just doesn't compute. The writing for this was crap.
2. Pat Lee's art style from hell. I mean, WTF? It looks like a manga, the humans looked stupid, as did many of the Transformers.
IDW's comics surpass Dreamwave's by FAR, IMO. No wonder DW went out of buisiness.

Having Simon Furman as a writer doesn't necessarily equal quality. Look at the vast majority of his DW work.

Not to mention the Ultimate Guide.

War Within was the best thing produced by Dreamwave ever.
Although he was tied down by Brad Mick's established rules.
Better read the current IDW comics if you want a well rounded out story with depth and character development.

correct me if i'm wrong but... doesn't the ultimate guide attempt to unify all TF mythos into an "it's all true" type multi-verse like the one DC has been having problems with
Also i think it's been retconed away too...

having no real bearing on TF lore following the fall of DW it's kinda not that ultimate to me...

Th only retcon that I loathe is the "Primus/Unicron must exist in every galaxy..." crap. Because MANY continuities don't HAVE them, and now the person who said this, Furman, is going to exclude them both from the IDWverse. Bullshit.

If you can ignore the fact that the first one ends in a copout where there's no clue what really happened...and that the second is basically plotless until the closing moments of the fifth issue.

In total it was a good read for its fun value but the book was intended to re-write TF history and it failed to do so.Furman ,as usual , completely ignored anything he did not like about pre-established TF history....even his earlyer works.
AxiomScion wrote: correct me if i'm wrong but... doesn't the ultimate guide attempt to unify all TF mythos into an "it's all true" type multi-verse like the one DC has been having problems with
Yes it does. But I really dont see how DC is having any problems with their new multiverse.

There's no offical word on wether its been retconed out. There have been some sign's that IDW wants to keep the DW stuff an part of their continuity by trying to get the rights to DW TF material.
Truth be told there's not much information from the DW works that would contradict much of IDW's run.IDW's G1 could simply be a different line and most of the More then meets the eye's profile's can still be used in the IDW verse.

I've read fan fiction that's a thousand times better than some of these convoluted, nonsensical and overblown stories in Dreamwave. Even some of IDW's storylines need editing for clarity's sake >:(
Most of the time, it's a mindless read. A nice way to pass the time in the waiting room

Don't just say DW was all just crap, read the Transformers vs GIJo, that was in my opinion the best they had and it's one of my fave TF comics.
