The Universe of the Transformers is vast, and populated by many characters. Their universe is a large tapestry, made up of the stories and points of view of countless experiences that serve the larger whole.

These are some of those stories. This is:

It should be noted that while this project has been recognized by IDW Publishing and Hasbro, none of the works presented have been commissioned or solicited by either company. The stories are not official canon, except where noted.
These stories are the result of Transformers enthusiasts taking the time out of their busy days to contribute to a universe they love.
No one has been paid for the production of these stories.

:APPLAUSE: this mosaic works on many levels :APPLAUSE:

it's both trukk and munky

I'll be honest that the pencils initially turned me off, but as i clicked to enlarge and see this masterpiece my opinion changed for the better. Between the lettering and art It has a reflective (flashback) quality that suites the narrative voice of Primal and maintains a comic feel.

And JazZeke has a seasoned knack with writing Primal as he's done so oh so well on his own RPG site! I'll let him self promote though JazZeke writes BW dialog, I picture the BW series being viewed from a Sanyo tv like when I first saw it over 10 yrs ago.

Thanks guys for the nestalgia :D

WOW!!!! AWESOME!!!! BEAST WARS MOSAIC AGAIN!!!

very nice story Jaz, i really must compliment you on this. i really like that part where "neither will live" or something like that, a subtle reference to the ultimate fate of both characters, perhaps?

and i also liked it when you used the WW body instead of going BW-style, where OP already had a G1 robot body in the animation episode. good job, i really like this, you really did you homework on this.

again, only those who have watched the BW eppys will fully understand this mosaic. where would you put this? "Optimal Situation" or "Agenda Pt 3"?

very nice mosaic! :D I actually like that colorless drawing style.

I'd say "Optimal Situation", because it looks like Primal is in his "Optimal Optimus" -body, and I think this is the moment where he puts Prime's spark back.

Haha, I love your enthusiasm! Thanks so much for the kind words. And yes--it's an irony I noted. If Optimus Prime died before he could become a hero, then Optimus Primal would never exist. Conversely, in Primal didn't work to become a hero, then he would be unable to protect Prime.

and i also liked it when you used the WW body instead of going BW-style, where OP already had a G1 robot body in the animation episode. good job, i really like this, you really did you homework on this.

Not so much "homework" as having watched the show constantly over the course of a decade. Beast Wars in my favorite continuity, the best of Transformers IMO, and the very first time I saw those sweet War Within retro designs I wanted to see them retconned into Beast Wars somehow.

again, only those who have watched the BW eppys will fully understand this mosaic. where would you put this? "Optimal Situation" or "Agenda Pt 3"?

:MAX:

The first panel is based directly doring the final scene of "Optimal Situation," right after they restored Prime's spark to his body and Prime and Primal meet eyes.

I wanna thank everyone for their compliments about this Mosaic. This is such a thrill! Axiom's right though--I've gained more than a little practice writing thanks to playing in message board RPGs so much. I run a Beast Wars game, which I link to in my sig. I'm not the only good writer on there, so come check us out some time! ;)

Those pencils sure look tight. Awesome art, it feels like a Beast Wars Mosaic with a G1 flavor. Marvel TF comics flavor to be precise.
It might be too early to say but IMO this just might be this year's best Mosaic. It features a back story from my favorite arc on Beast Wars, how can I not love this one. Excellent work!

Gotta agree with the consensus that this is the best Mosaic ever. From the nods to "War Dawn" and "War Within" to the fact that Prime is in his War Within form...it's things like that which go a long way.

BOOOOOOOO not show accurate!

:P

This one is awesome, I love the messisnes that pencils give a pic, in my opinion pencil messiness looks cooler and cleaner then inked stuff.
Congratuations to the ones who made this work, I love it!

Ooh, neat art style  . The writing is neat too, and I love how you wrote in both Optronix and Orion Pax at the same time, very logically. The rest of the writing is equally good. It also kinda makes me remember why I like Primal so much, cause he wasn't perfect, and had a lot of faults, and I felt he had more of a friendship(or commraderieship or something) with his fellows, unlike Prime in the show(to me anyway).

So all in all, this is most definitely a few notches above top-notch ;)^ .

New System worked up, I'll make a copy frontpage, with instructions to post comments here.

Very fond of this piece, the art is a nice change from the norm too.

Brilliantly done. I'm... really feeling this one, in a way I haven't felt any of the past mosaics. Even the really, really good ones.

I'm hearing the song "Leader of the Band" in my head as background music for this little scene. "My life has been a poor attempt to immitate the man... I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band."

Instead of filling in a gap, this one plays up the emotional weight of a moment that kinda got glossed over in the show... I like that.

The War Within body for Optimus Prime was a good choice, considering the "burden of command" theme here. Also, an ironic coincidence, it's the form with the most visual similarities to Optimal Optimus, the wheels on the side of Prime's torso are echoed in the circular panels on Primal's, and they both have the same number of wheels in about the same place on their lower legs in robot mode. I don't know if you meant it that way, but it helps bring home the paralel a bit more.

It's a beautiful moment here. I get the sense that the two... It's hard to express, but it feels like Primal really did inherit something from Prime, and that his ship being the one that got involved wasn't just a coincidence.

Fantastic Mosaic! It definitely adds a layer to BW without completely changing the original; unlike some "official" stories *cough*GatheringAscendingSourcebooks*cough*.

Personally, I would've left out the last panel, because it's a little bit sappy compared to the rest of the Mosaic--but I guess that would've changed the title?--and it's more... subtle and Borges-esque without it.

I really like this one, but the War Within body just doesn't do it for me. I grew up on Beast Wars and changing the designs of a character that appeared in it to a form that was made many years later kinda messes it up a bit. G1 Prime having his G1 toon body makes it more in-continuity with the G1 toon. Besides, the War Within comics prelude the Dreamwave G1 comics continuity, not the G1 toon continuity, which is what Beast Wars follows (albeit with some slight modifications due to the additions to the Beast Wars toon that reference the Marvel G1 comics).

Still, keep up the good work, guys!

Is this the second Beast Wars mosaic? The first was the one with Terrorsaur dragging Waspy, right?

Well, the point of War Within was to retcon these designs for all continuities. The Sunbow people, when animating the pre-earth scenes, didn't want to bother to redesign the robot modes as well for each characater that would only get a total of what, 5 minutes of use? Can't say I really blame them there, but it didn't give the Beast Wars animators anything to work with when they did these scenes either. The change is only a minor one, and something most of the fan community wanted to see since the WW designs debutted.

Thanks! That is one of the most memorable scenes in the show, gave me goosebumps even though at the time I had only minimal knowledge of G1. Still, the scene definitely needed flashing out somehow.

And that is a good song, haha.

heh, how true. there are striking similarities between the animation style of A-ha's video and the sketchy style of this mosaic.

5 points for bringing that trivia out. i love New Wave and this is one of my fave 80's singles.

Huh, never would've made that connection with "Take on Me" :P
Funny enough, the style for this mosaic came when I was sketching the first frame in line art style pencils, and before I could ink it, I started to shade it more and more until I realized it would be impossible to ink it well and have the same effect. So, I thought: why not pencil shade the whole darn thing? So, after a LOT of lead smudge on my hand, it was done. Some panels turned out better then others, and unfortunate my scanner killed some of the tones and textures... but overall I like it, and may do another one in this style.
