This is actually an old concern of mine but Ive never asked this here before , I have the Transformers '86 Movie 20th Anniversary Edition on DVD right? Right. And you know how it has the Scramble city episode on it right? How come You cant take the commentary off it? Ive tried to watch it without the Commentary and it wont let me. There's no Option to remove it. Why would they put that rare episode on this DVD with all this Commentary over it. Is it just my DVD that does this or is it all?
And Does anyone know where I can get a Legit copy?

Sony got the rights to show the video of Scramble City when putting together the 20th Anniversary DVD. Unfortunately, they couldn't secure the rights to the audio, so decided to get the fans who did a commentary track for the Fullscreen movie to do a commentary for that instead.

Ah, so *that's* the fandub I saw on YouTube. The cast list also explains Silverbolt randomly having a European accent. :P (Seriously, considering the rest of the fans seem to have made an attempt to imitate the existing voices, that sorta sticks out like a sore thumb.)

They put the Commentary in because there was never a offical english dubbing or subbing fot that Japanese episode.

If you dont like the Commentary hit mute

You could find the fan dub on youtube.

Couldn't Sony at least create a new dub track instead of using the original Japanese track? Though it wouldn't have made sense to bring in some of the Unicron Trilogy people for something being released on the G1 movie DVD, that would have been better than just having commentary, wouldn't it?

this info is derived from an other person I know.

Sony seems to have no interest in releasing anything Transformers.Sony also has the rights distrabtion in the U.S. of RID, Zone,Beast Wars 2 and Beast Wars Neo and they donnt seem to think that theres much profit in releaseing any of these serries.

As a matter of fact they have completly turned down offers from other complaies to co-release some of theos shows in the U.S.

And they refuse to sell the rights to anyone. The wont even sell it back to Takara.

The original audio did appear on Metrodome's and Madman's copies of the TFTM DVDs.

RID is a Disney property. No Sony involvement there.

Zone is odd given that unlike Headmaster, Masterforce and Victory, the series were never aquired by Sunbow due to there being no Star TV due for the episode. Zone has been release officially in the UK but only using a bootleg copy.

Beast Wars II and Neo are weird ones, mainly due to the fact that there have not even been released in Japan on DVD.

Its my understanding that Disney has the rights to air the show but that Sony owns the rights to release it on DVD in the U.S.

The series RID was edited and dubbed by Saban Entertainment, to be aired on Fox Kids in 2001. Saban were bought by Disney, as well as their entire catalogue. Of course, Hasbro still have some control in owning the Transformers brand.

In Europe it was different, where Fox Kids (also owned by Disney) distributed the show and only recently became known as Jetix in 2005. The show is still owned by Disney but they are more relaxable in releasing the show (and other Saban media) on DVD over here than in North America.

I'm guessing Sony own Car Robots in Japan, which is, from a legal standpoint, a completely different show. It really does get confusing with some many companies own part of each Transformers show.

I know there are disputes with other Saban material, like the 90s X-Men series, which was commissioned by Marvel with Fox and created by Saban (Disney). All claim to own part of the show.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.I was viewing the rights to RID and Car Robots as one thing.

Thats the dumbest thing Ive ever heard. Why Sony Sell the the video and not the audio? Why would anyone split two things that go hand in hand? What is anyone gonna do with a silent video?
Thats like buying a new car and the Dealership saying " Oh sure You can buy this car .......... Oh you want the keys to drive it too? Sorry cant do that." :-B
"well what Im gonna do with the car?Look at it?"
LAME! 8-|

I dont tbink that Sony sold the rights to the video and not the audio.

Its that the video is partly owned by who ever owns the rights to Marvel/Sunbow cartoons.

Sony [if I'm right] does not completly own the rights to the video used in Scrample City but they do own the complete rights to the audio.

And [I believe] that Sony own the distrabtion rights to the audio in the States.

Copy right laws are so confuseing.
