Spotlight: Mirage?

Was browsing DevArt and looking through my DevWatch messages when I saw the following art pieces from an artist with the screen name
Guidoarts:
Mirage Cover SketchMirage Cover PencilMirage Cover InkNow, presuming that this is Guido Guidi from IDW (which, considering the site also has artwork from the last BW: Ascending entry, I believe it is), it's a fairly reliable source. However, I would hesitate to call it News as I don't believe we've heard anything offical from IDW relating to any Spotlights beyond Arcee and Grimlock.
Has anyone heard about a Spotlight: Mirage?

Yeah - it's due later this year. It comes in, I think, as part of the new batch of Spotlights that includes Grimlock.
Not sure who is writing though. It's not Furman though I don't think.

It's a March release, Grimlock gets released in early March, Mirage gets a late March release. To round out March, a "Focus on the Decepticons" series will be launched.
SPotlight: Mirage will be written by George Strayton, With Guido on Art Duties.
Stepping into the spotlight is the infiltrator Mirage, an Autobot who has long questioned his allegiances in the war against Megatron. But when a temporal accident suddenly shunts him into an alternate timeline, he finally gets the chance to experience life as a Decepticon. Will he embrace his newfound power and wipe out the last of the Autobots, or sacrifice everything to save them?

From the summary given, I'd say the plot sounds just interesting enough to pique my curiosity. Whether I'd actually go out and buy it is entirely another matter.

I seriously didn't know that Mirage has long questioned his allegiances in the war against Megatron. Is this something new from the new IDW continutity or should I know this already from previous tellings / sources?
Somebody cite instances of Mirage doubting his badge and pwn me, please. I'm curious.

It's in his
tech specs, for one, along with various episodes of the original G1 cartoon (particularly the Pilot).
In any case... while I have to admit I've never cared about Mirage a great deal for good or bad, I do have a soft spot for "parallel universe" stories, so I'll likely see about getting this one anyway.

http://seibertron.com/database/character.php?char_id=106&view=dataMirage is not thrilled about being with a bunch of rough-and-tumble freedom fighters like the Autobots. If he had a choice had be in Monte Carlo, or better yet, back on his beloved Cybertron hunting turbofoxes with his high-priced friends. Autobot leader Optimus Prime must constantly cajole him into continuing his service with the Autobots, but he feels it may be a losing battle. Despite his coolness to the cause, Mirage is a surprisingly effective and deadly fighter and an even more effective intelligence gatherer, which is the role he much prefers.

An alternate timeline? Why can't he just become a Decepticon in the current timeline?

Nothing to do with the topic:
Hey Leo, I was just thinking last night how I hadn't seen a post from you in a while. Maybe I just miss them, but I was wondering what happened to you. Good to read you again!

Thank you! Unfortunately my computer has died so I'm only able to get online whenever I get the chance to visit public libraries or use friends' computers. Good to see you again, old chum!

That's unfortunate, but it's good to see you again. I missed your sagely prattle.
Oh yeah, Mirage. Heard he had a Spotlight coming out....

He is certainly an interesting character so it's a good choice. It could also be cheap to produce if Mirage is invisible all the way through...

See Leo, that's why I missed you. That's a great idea. There could just be a thought or speech balloon with some Mirage-esque dialogue.

Clearly we're on the same page...but is Mirage on the page?

Because then if he doesnt like being a Decepticon, it will make it very hard for him to go back to the Autobots.
Plus him living in an alternate reality lets him hunt down the last of the Autobots, a much more interesting (albeit predictable) story, than having him join the Con's, and shoot wildly at some random bots.

I am SO looking forward to this one! Mirage is a favorite of mine. Out of all the new Spotlights we know about, I'm in the most hurry to pick this one up. The art is gonna be good, we know that!

Yes, that makes sense. I just always get a bit wary of 'alternate timeline' stories, I guess.

I love alternate timeline stories, myself. It's interesting to sometimes step out of an existing universe, find a "what if" path not taken, and ride down it for a while to see where it goes.
It'll also, as i_amtrunks stated, let the "Be careful what you wish for" angle get explored more thoroughly than normal continuity would allow. Otherwise, Mirage would just be another grunt. Although I admit I could still think of ways to explore that angle.
