Anime is a style of cartoon, not everything animated in Japan is considered anime.

Out of all of the Transformers cartoons only Masterforce and Victory were anime. As Greed said, 'Anime is a style of cartoon' and this style takes the form of human characters with big eyes. When have you ever seen Spike Witwicky with eyes that cover most of his face?

Oh and to answer the original question we already know that it's called Heroes, that David Kaye will be voicing Prime not Megatron & that someone will post a "Autobots, roll out yesss...." joke in this thread now even though he only said it in BW and the jokes been done in a dozen other threads.
The Transformers confirmed to be in the cast are Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream (No surprises there!) Ultra Magnus Bumblebee & Prowl. It will be animated by the same series that did Fosters & teen titans but some fans just can't get it into their heads that it probably won't look like either. Oh, and Starscream will be voiced by the same guy as spongebob squarepants.

the story we have so far, is that the autobots end up on a future version of earth, were robots are mankinds slaves.

And G1 was written in America AFAIK, the animation was basically out-sourced to Japan. Pretty far from anime.

It will be an epic struggle between good and evil, with Autobots striving to stop Decepticons' evil plans and protect innocent beings.
Yay, fortune telling for dummies!

For the most part it sounds like it has potential, but I don't like the fact that it takes place in the future.
One thing I think that make the TFs cool is that they transform into real cars and planes, and when they went towards "futuristic" designs post-movie, it lost a lot of its fun. It almost goes against the whole reason why they transformed in the first place.
And while the G1 'toon had Nightbird and such, but that was one episode. I dunno, a TF cartoon with a bunch of human-made robots just doesn't feel right to me...

Exactly. The animation models were designed in the US but only the actual animation was outsourced to Japan. The same was done with
Batman: TAS and [at least the first season of]
The Real Ghostbusters. They're not anime.

I think the definition of anime is very loose, and there's kind of a grey area.
If you want to get technical, all cartoons are anime, going by the Japanese definition of the word. Though in the states, it pretty much used exclusively to describe a Japanese cartoon.
Teen Titans and Totally Spies were drawn in the anime style, but were written in America and France respectively, and simply came off as "anime wanna-bes" instead of actual anime. They tried so hard to be anime, the expressions and such were more over the top than most japanese stuff. G.I. Joe Sigma 6 (which is ironically unamerican for going for the anime style, and pretty much goes against everything G.I. Joe's about) is kind of in a grey area between actual anime and a wanna-be anime.
G1 Transformers is also kind of in a grey area, as the robots themselves and a couple episodes (and the movie) are very anime-styled. Though I'd say, at least as far as the original cartoon goes, it's definantly leaning towards the American cartoon side. Also remember a lot of episodes were animated in Korea, so it isn't just a japanese thing. In fact, most American cartoons seem to be animated in Korea.
Tne only G1 I consider anime is Headmasters onward, as their production was entirely in Japan. RiD, and the Unicron Trilogy are also definalty anime, as they were almost exclusively made in Japan, writing and all.
Beast Wars and Machines on the other hand are the farthest from anime as far as TF goes. Those shows are a good 90% Canadian, and the only japanese influence in them are cameos from G1 robots. The character designs and visual appearance of the show couldn't be much farther away from Nihon.

I think the main benefit of this series being set in the future is that we're going to see a bunch of alt modes which will blend in perfectly for people who want to make a very "Cybertron" lineup on their display shelf.

The Transformers will team up with the Cylons to overthrow humanity.
Also Family Guy, being the fine anime show that it is, is completely animated in Korea.

Not G1....also, i never say G1 goin chibi or having a sweat above the head. But yeah, Transformer might have been one of the early anime-influenced cartoon.
