JazZeke has sent the Seibertron.com some news that somehow slipped by just about the entire fandom. Chris Ryall posted on IDWpublishing.com last week that September's Spotlight issue will feature none other than the heroic leader of the Autobots himself ... Optimus Prime. Click here to view Chris Ryall's post about this. According to Ryall, the Optimus Prime Spotlight will be "written by Simon Furman, with interior art and a cover by Don Figueroa. And this variant cover, by... well, why don't you all take a guess? It's someone IDW's worked with for years, but this is their first-ever Transformers piece."

hmmm... i wonder how they're gonna do this. is it gonna take place before all the infiltration, stormbringer, and escalation stuff?

Awesome cover! The one and only Optimus Prime! About a four month wait huh. I need to catch up on the other ones anyway.

If that image is going to be used in the OP spotlight, they should have the proportion corrected. Other than that, I think it looks quite good.

It's about time! I always felt that this should've been the first Spotlight comic. Most of the Spotlight stories have been awesome so far, and I bet this one will be too!

So is this going to take place before War Within storyline? Or more of the G1 War Dawn plot?

Ha ha ha! It's funny because I knew about this like a month ago. Of course I've could have news posted it but with all the movie crap coming out left and right and it taking over the fandom, I chose not to. Sorry, just not feeling like a fan anymore since hardly any new Transformers come out here and I own almost all the Transformers DVDs (except Beast Machines and UK ones) so all I'm left with is the IDW comics which are awesome except when they make pointless manga versions plus they can't finish the G1 Transformers prequel, The War Within.

Now why doesn't this surprise me?
What really surprises me is why they put it off for so long.

It looks pretty slick... as long as one ignores the proportion of the chest/shoulders. I definitely agree that there is too much windshield. Shoulders could use a little tinkering as well.

Optimus seems a bit of an odd choice for Spotlight... after all, hasn't just about every TF story already been Optimus-centric? I kinda like the Spotlights better when they're about previously "minor" characters who've hardly gotten any chance look-at before... Nevertheless, I have no doubt this will be good!

And the cover art's pretty neat... the windows are a bit big, but since it's a single piece I'll give the artist the benefit of the doubt and assume that's forced perspective or artistic exaggeration, rather that a Lee-esque complete lack of a sense of proportion.
