Is the "treacherous" Starscream angle being overplayed?

Starscream, we all know he's treacherous by nature, but does anyone else feel that the angle is being a bit overdone right nown? It seems like his character has been getting royally smacked down by Megatron in nearly all of his recent fiction:

The '07 DS Decepticons game(don't know about the console version), Starscream was always out to eliminate Megatron in that story. As far as the actual '07 movie is concerned, we really didn't get a chance to see what his character was about, but no doubt he'll get smacked down in TF2.

In Animated, what was the first thing Starscream did? Try to kill Megatron, then get smacked down by him later on, repeatedly.

In Dreamwave(ok, a bit dated, but), Starscream's treachery was more interesting because Megatron was eliminated successfully(for a time), and he had his own little sub-group to command. Alas, we didn't get too many stories outta that, because the second thing Megatron did was come in and smack down Starscream, and then it ended.....

Then we get to IDW. The initial arc? Starscream scheming to once again be the undisputed Decepticon leader, but here is where we get a light at the end of the tunnel, because Starscream is back, and looking decently loyal(or at least as loyal as he was in G1).

So my point/question?

Who wants to see a more decently loyal Starscream who can keep his scheming in check for awhile before getting smacked down by Megatron for the Nth time, because I think that angle is getting a little overplayed. I for one would like to see some NEW character nuance come to light.

You should really check out IDW's Reign of Starscream. It's set in the movie verse so there has been more freedom to reimagine his character. But this Starscream isn't nearly as scheming in that old G1 cartoon way. He's loyal to the decepticon cause above and beyond Megatron. He doesn't go against megatron, but sees Megs as having betrayed the cause, and thus takes appropriate action to steer the decepticons back on course. And in this version he's much more competant, less sniveling, but with the same sarcastic back talking mouth.

I really think this is what your looking for. Plus Chris Mowrey is turning out to be quite the adept writer. :D
