Does anyone know where I can get a DVD of G1 Season 1 for a decent price?

Hasn't been released in the US. Amazon sells a Chinese import, but many people have reported problems with Region One DVD players accepting the format. You can risk a pirated copy from China (if you google, that's what you get), but many of those are based off of iffy masters. And, of course, they're pirated.

HK, not a pirate. But I still says "Arrrrrr!"

IIRC The Kid Rhino sets has been out of print for a while. The sound quailty in season 1 is messed up.

I remember madman had put out a dvd set a few months ago, so that Is an alternative to the rhino versions.

Not sure about the quality or the region though.

I have the Chinese Import. My wife got it for me from Amazon.com. It automatically chooses the English audio track when I put it into my xbox 360 (except it sometimes doesn't for the original cartoon movie). I have to manually choose English as the audio on my Philips DVD player, but no problems with it working for me.

So... I don't know if that helps or not.

I've heard the Madman set is very nice but it doesn't include the original cartoon movie -- you'd have to buy that separately I think.

If you're asking for just Season 1 of G1, then all of this talk is giving you more than you wanted (All 4 Seasons instead of just Season 1).

Thats not accurate.

Rhino released all 4 seasons back in the late 90s in the U.S.

That's not accurate either. Rhino didn't release the first season on DVD until April 23, 2002.

I have all of the rhino dvd sets. They are very nice. I love the animation cells that came with them. If you can afford them get them.

What are people willing to pay for the complete rhino set in good condition. I have seen them go on ebay for between 200 and 400

Complete Rhino set?

Do you mean all five separate sets sold in the same auction, or a single set containing all 98 episodes? Cuz Rhino never released a complete set, just the five individual ones.

Yea, I'm not paying that much. I would say $100 is my top but I'm not sure I can afford that. Maybe I'll just try to find a VCR.

The Chinese Import collection (with English language as the 2nd audio track) was less than $100 off of Amazon... but that was over a year ago. I'm thinking it was around $80, but don't quote me on that.

It does NOT have the animations between parts of each episode... where the narrator says "The Transformers will return after these messages". Those are taken out. So, some won't like that, but others will (others won't care).

I only wish the copy of the original cartoon movie on my Chinese Import collection came with the behind the scenes stuff that were on the 20th anniversary edition DVD.

So... if you want that... I'd suggest Madman's set plus the 20th Anniversary edition of the original cartoon movie -- if more money isn't an issue.

I have the Chinese import and it works well (although it does cause the DVD player to whir rather loudly when you first put the DVD in, but that stops once you get the root menu and beyond). The commercial break animations are in the special features.
