So I grew up on G1 and just started watching Beast Wars for the first time (after a friend recommended I check it out)... and it's much more awesome than I anticipated! I'm only up to episode 12 of the first season, but as I was watching ep. 12 ("Victory"), a thought occurred to me:

If Predacons can fly in bot mode, why can't Dinobot (since he was a Predacon originally)? And how come Optimus Primal can fly, but other Maximals can't? Does that ever get addressed in the series? I know it's a minor detail, but I was just curious.

Haven't seen BW Eps in a while, but I think only Airazor Terrorsaur and Waspinator can fly because they have wings. Inferno can fly because of his rear-end thrusters and Primal can fly because he has his Prime jets.

I don't think there was anyone else from Season 1 that could fly

Yeah that sounds right, Optimus, Airazor, Waspinator, Terrorsaur, and Inferno were the only season 1 flyers.

Basically, if they have winged alt. mode(such as a bird or a wasp), then they can fly.

If they have jet boosters(jet packs), it's because A. The toys had jet boosters(Inferno, certain Transmetals, don't wanna spoil anything), or B. The writer's wanted them to fly(Optimus Primal, probably to give the Maximals a flyer).

They really give no logical reason why only certain Maximals and Predacons have built in jet packs.
