Spotlight Metroplex...Spoilers/Discussion

WEll, it was not as massive, and awe inspiring as the descriptions had led me to believe it would be. In fact, Metroplex is hardly even in it.

This is more like a Spotlight Throttlebots, or SL Chase/Searchlight or Goldbug. Or it could be SL Sixshot part two. I don't know, it was pretty inconsequential, and rather boring to me.

Maybe I just need to hear some more opinions on the whole thing.

Of course the SL introduces more mysteries, and kind of leads us back to that -tion type of tale.

I was okay with it. I agree, it did feel like the pre-AHM books. Sixshot needs to find someone to get some payback...like a certain saurian-looking battle platform to help him out.

We can pin down a general place where this fits into IDW's Transformer continuity, and it explains how Sixshot is still online following Devastation.

Liked the Throttlebot designs. Hopefully we'll see more of them soon, besides Searchlight.

What is..."it"?

"It" was Scrounge's special arm! There's no other like it! Seriously, he's on the very first page. I already updated the wiki here:

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Scrounge

I am seriously tempted to repaint a Minicon as Scrounge for my Classics shelf!

Loved it, the writing was back to being sharp and clean, and hinted at story points that were in place before the year of pain. Hopefully we can get back to those stories soon.

Art was fantastic and I loved the change in layout, the two page spreads worked far better than I anticipated.

I agree with Tigertracks though, this should have been Spotlight:Throttlebots. Metroplex shows up like 3 or 4 times(counting his citymode) Btw IIRC, Sixshot took over from Galvatron in the Japanese Headmaster series in controlling Trypticon while Magnus did his "City Commander" thing so I have a stinking feeling, Trypticon may show up with Sixshot doing a repeat performance of his Japanese counterpart.

AND we've already seen Trypticon in Stormbringer & Spotlight: Blaster, so he needs to be done up proper!

Not to be a pain, but I agree with Tiger Tracks. The four-six panels of Metroplex made him look very excellent, but I'm getting tired of Sixshot and who really cares, honestly, about the Throttlebots? I found there to be very little story if any, although the 'it' does have me intrigued, and I read it several times because I thought I missed something big in it that would have made it worth while. Clearly there's a transition afoot, and that's great, but this one was bogus.

I really just wanted more Metroplex. Give me some huge robot fighting action. I mean, I guess I had thought that was why they were going to change the panel layout.

Sure it was a step in the right direction after AHM, but a little too blah for what they had been trying to sell us.

I agree. If it's a spotlight on a certain character, then the issue should be about that character and not about the supporting players or background people. The initial runs of the Spotlights had done this the right way. Sixshot, Shockwave, Nightbeat, Hot Rod, Kup, etc. all focused on the guy who's name was on the cover. I think I may have missed an issue or two, becuase the last spotlights I got were Metroplex and Jazz, but starting with the Revelation ones there was little focus on the main individual. those four at least had to wrap up a story, so I guess it's acceptable. Not trying to sound totalitarian over comic books, ok? But the Jazz book was basically about how Tracks got messed up and Jazz saved him from the Predacons, and I thought that Jazz himself was sort of added in and not the main part of the story. But Metroplex? Gee, here's six panels of him and that's all. I may have missed something in a spotlight I'm missing, or maybe they're just setting up the next story arc, but I thought this one was a waste.
And Sixshot, oh boy. Ok, he's the solo Transformer assault group, we get it. Ok, no known weaknesses, we get it. He can survive a smash from Metroplex, ok, he's tough, we get it. Can't we get a new bad guy?

After reading Spotlight: Metroplex we really dont know anything about Metroplex.

If Metroplex is indeed guarding The Magnificence and he survived the Decepticon victory over the Autobots then they are setting up the possibility that the Autobots use The Magnificence to beat back the Decepticons.

I thought the Magnificence was destroyed.

Leads me to wonder just what this new MacGuffin is.Hope they don't try to cram a "G1 Allspark" into the story. Somehow, I fear that could occur.

Also, going the Megs/Galvy route with Bumblebee and Goldbug, it seems. Nice!

I also like that, the notion that IDWs writers are treating upgraded characters as seperate characters, like Mega- and Galvatron. I didn't pay Goldbug much attention, but they are doing that with him also. That's cool.

I think they are setting up Sixshot so that he can be taken down by Drift.

I havent read a Transformers comic since 2007, and I just picked this up for the heck of it. I agree the story needed to focus more on Metroplex. Though I for one did enjoy seeing the throttle bots.

Gotta agree with Dagon on this one, I am sick it being rammed down our throat just how tough Sixshot is. We get it, infact we got it ages ago!! If it is does turn out to be Drift that finally does a number on him I wont be happy.

Overall I was a bit 'meh' about this after been non to impressed with AHM I was looking forward to seeing a link to the next arc but i felt that Metroplex didn't get enough panel time and the whole thing didn't really tell me lot aprt from Metroplex has it (the X-Factor perhaps? :P ) and that Sixshot is a badass(which I think they may have mentioned once or twice before).

Yeah, the uber-bad guy Sixshot has been explained pretty much to it's limit by now I think. Don't misunderstand me, I like Sixshot and all, but come on now. And, I fear that they are grooming Drift to become the Autobot equivalent of Sixshot, which I'm not really that thrilled about to be honest.

Yeah, don't get me wrong either man, Sixshot is an awesome character just I feel he should only be brought into play when the situation is of huge importance, he said himself as much himself. When the Sixshot comes into battle i want to think "whoa, business is gonna pick up".

I can see the "epic" fight between Drift and Sixshot already in which Drift beats Sixshot and is then proclaimed to be the best Transformer of all time and is given the Matrix. "Arise Driftus Prime" at which point he is revealed to be Headmaster and his partner is Shane McCarthy!!

I don't hate Drift btw, infact the whole third faction thing intrigues me just think he could have been introduced a little more subtly!!

This was okay. Not great, not bad, but why SL Metroplex i'll never know. He made a cameo at best.

But this was a welcome reprieve to the crapfest that was SL Cliffjumper. Man that book sucked.

To me it felt like Sixshot telling everyone he's free kinda overshadowed everything else in the spotlight. There was absolutely no hints at what Metroplex could be hiding.

could be a deactivated Transformer.

could be a powerful form of energy. (the stuff from BW2?)

could be combiner information and tech.

could be a transformation cog for someone.

could be that I'm really tired and not making much sense.

EEEE!!!! That's a great idea. Whatever happened to the combiner technology being a guarded secret during Revelation's arc? It really did just kind of vanish from the story line, 'cept for Devastator in AHM. Maybe, in an obscure G1 tie-in, Metroplex is hiding a deactivated Defensor, since the Protectobots could attach to G1 toy Metroplex to give him super powers.

Could be the Transformers comic license so that Pat Lee never gets to touch it again?

I've enjoyed the spotlights, more so than the regular series(in terms of both writing and art), but this one I'm not a fan of. Like others said too much focus wason the Throttlebots, and also as others said, who really cares about them?

Sixshot, ok, we get it. He's a badass. Why do the writers the need to tell us every chance they get what a badass he is? We know it, we dont need to see him kicking ass every single issue. I also shook my head on how little he was damaged after getting stepped on by a city sized robot. I get he's tough, but he should be paper thin after getting hit by that much force.

Of course there was the fact Metroplex was barely in it. It would have beenbetter served if this was a spotlight forsomeone else, then the Metroplex spotlight continued the story after he left the planet.

Oh my, so much hate for Sixshot! I feel I must intercede for his honor. Poor bot can't defend himself, after all.

Yeah, I hate munchkin invulnerable asskicking characters too. But I actually found Cliffjumper WAY more annoying in that regard in his Spotlight. (I bought the first melee, but the second, when he kills everyone and takes the ship? No way, hombre).

My point is, if you accept it in Cliffjumper, you should at least tolerate it in Sixshot. Unlike Autobots, Decepticons are trained to be warriors--it makes sense they'd be more...ummm, badasser(?) than Autobots.

I agree with everyone who's said it's not really a Metroplex spot. Once you put that aside, though, the story was good--it was well-paced, well laid out, and had an end that tied off that storyline but still left open some pretty interesting ones.

Artwise, well, I (heart) Matere. He's got a really good eye for composing an interesting shot, and I like his robots. (He's also actually very nice in person and kind of cute, which matters to me, but maybe not so much for you. :P ) I DO think the colorist should have her little paws smacked. Some of her color contrasts are eye-hurtingly bright (like bottom of page 12) which detract from the art.

HK, je ne suis pas art critic.

While Im a fan af Marcelo, his Sixshot resembled Prime entirely too much.
