As a big fan of the transformers as a kid, I had to see the live action movies and really enjoyed them. I have delved further into the movieverse reading the IDW comics associted with this contiunity. I've enjoyed them and am looking for more transformers comics. I have seen 3 major comic continuities, Marvel, Dreamwave, and IDW. I'm seeking advice from well-read transformers fans. Which of these series is the best (no spoilers please!!); I know the Marvel series is the 1st but is it necessarily the best? Or is the new revamped IDW series more entertaining? Is the Dreamwave stuff worthwhile at all?

In my opinion, Marvel is by far the best, it has epic characterizations; followed by IDW, and finally Dreamwave.
Dreamwave is not too bad, and definitely had its moments, but endless (literally - it ended in the middle of stories because of bankrupcy) Although I recommend reading the War Within series from them.
The only series that is bad is Devils Dues TF-GIJoe crossovers. Highly NOT recommended.

EDIT: Almost forgot:
WARNING! SEIBERTRON CONTAINS NUTS!!!

New Avengers/Transformers crossover - Avoid it more than you avoid Devil's Due stuff which wasn't THAT bad).

It's really more about Tony Stark's ego (as the last seven years of Marvel comics have been) than Transformers.

I second the War Within stuff from DW. Fantastic art, good writing, everything. Their other stuff was off to a great start and then...died, which is irritating.

I have to say that I'm a huge fan of IDW's Megatron Origin, honestly, as well.

And the Spotlight series by IDW is worth a read.

Some of the others (All Hail Megatron or the new ongoing) are worth it if you want to have opinions and good discussions (ummm, *heated* discussions) with other fans.

HK, most of the UK reprints are pretty missable--the coloring alone is eye-hurty.

I am also looking into purchasing TF comics. I know very little about TF comics so this thread is quite helpful to me. :)

It took watching the movies for me to remember how much I loved the Transformers, too. Back then, it was the Marvel series, which really is the core of the TF universe. From that basic framework, so much has evolved. I really liked Generation 2, it's a bit darker, Hasbro kinda loosened the reins a little on Simon Furmen's imagination. I like the IDW stuff, especially the Spotlights. In those, I got so much insight to so much more - I havn't read Ongoing yet - waiting for the big book to come out later this year that'll reprint the first six issues, but I can say after reading All Hail Megatron 4, I'm not particularly fond of the art. Maybe it'll grow on me... The crossovers are rediculous. I don't think TF and GI Joe should ever be in the same universe - two completely different ideas going on that just don't mesh - but my opinion - you might like it. Try reading a little of all of it and decide what you like. I'm well on my way to spending a ton of money to read it all!
