IDW Lio Convoy question

Yesterday I finished reading the IDW Beast Wars comics(The Gathering and The Ascending).I really enjoyed them(I always wanted to see the characters from BWII and BWN in a story I could understand since I don't speak Japanese).
But...
I find quite weird the fact that Lio Convoy's cybertronian alt mode seems to be a mechanical lion

with continuous tracks(!)

Pre-BW Lio convoy was supposed to look like that

When he arrives on Earth his alt mode turns into the organic lion that we all know...

Other characters(eg Big Convoy and Magmatron)seem to have typical cybertronian alt modes that don't look like their beast modes on Earth.

Am I missing something :?: :?: :?:

(My sincere apologies for the case this has been discussed before...)

When writing the Beast Wars comics, Benson Yee rejiggered with the timeline of the show to state that the Japanese series (II and Neo) take place before CGI Beast Wars, rather than durning (which was the popular fan opinion). So that explains why Lio Convoy still has a mechanical lion mode.

Or maybe it's just down to artistic license.

Even if BWII and BWN took place before BW, a mechanical lion mode is illogical. Also, this doesn't explain why the other characters who took part in the events of BWII and BWN still have their original cybertronian alt modes.
Artistic license is a much more logical explanation...

Thanks for the reply anyway...
