If you can, try to pick up the five Classic Transformers Volumes. These contain the Marvel run of stories (minus 3, 9, the last page of 21, 22, 23 and 45, because of the use of Marvel owned characters; a deal was reached with Volume 5, which allowed the use of Circuit Breaker and the Neo-Knights; Volume 6, which wraps things up, will be out in July.) If you're into the UK material, hunt down the Target:2006 trade, and the Best of UK line (Dinobots, Space Pirates, Time Wars, City of Fear and Prey; an Omnibus reprint of the first three also exists.)
For the more current stuff, try to track down the TPB's of Infiltration, Stormbringer, Escalation and Devastation. These are the best work IDW has done, and really should be appreciated. Look into getting the Beast Wars titles only if you're a fan of the show and/or Simon Furman's overwrought and melodramatic style of storytelling. The first fifteen Spotlight issues (collected in three TPB's) are also worth getting, as they do an equal job of telling good stories and setting up stuff in the -ation stories.
Avoid All Hail Megatron and everything that came afterward (except for Last Stand of the Wreckers) like the plague. Because, let's face it, it more or less is the literary equivalent.

Well thank you Darth Bombshell, and I looked into those comics and now I can not wait till I receive them. And I do not know what happened before but when I went to log in before my account was deleted for some reason. But for others who didn't see my post before it was deleted but I have been a long time G1 fan and the only ones after that I enjoyed was just Beast Wars. And now I have been wanting to get into the comics now but I have no idea where to start. And after looking into what Darth said was good I just recently picked up Transformers: Escalation, Stormbringer, and Infiltration. I wouldn't mind some good dark Transformers comics also. Thanks for your time.

There aren't any dark Transformers comics really.
MARVEL's G2 is as close as it got for them.
MAX DINOS is alright, and THE LAST STAND OF THE WRECKERS is quite dark in the later issues.
Most of the Marvel classics are a bit campy, the UK series tend to get a bit better-- I know many would consider these classic TF lore, so you might give them a look anyway.

I just got done reading thru GI Joe vs The Transformers. Its the Image/DDP/DW run and i continued reading thru volume 2, The Art of War, and Black Horizon. The series basically rewrites a new canon in which the Transformers and GI Joe come about in the same universe. So for example, Snake Eyes goes blind and mute after a Decepticon missle blows up a tank right next to him and scars him horribly, thus producing the deaf mute Sneak Eyes we all know and love.
The origins of the characters are intermixed, the artwork varies from volume to volume, but overall, I really loved reading thru this series. The idea of GI Joe and Cobra using captured TFer tech was cool and Serpent O.R. was pretty wicked too. If yer looking for simple fun comics with pretty good artwork, memorable characters, and a decent story, i'd start there.
At the moment, i'm reading thru 'All Hail Megatron'. Its a bit on the emo-i-think-Sideswipe-and-Sunstreaker-are-having-an-affair type ordeal. Much more adult, but its kinda boring. The art sucks, but the idea of Decepticons mass killing humans for the hell of it turns the whole story into something different. I dunno, its all right i guess.
EDIT: Just finished 13. I dunno if it goes on from there, but meh...Of all the various versions of the story, i dislike this one.
