I'm trying to think of the Transformer, from the cartoon, that couldn't transform because of an accident or something. He was permanently stuck in robot form and was an Autobot scientist, I believe. Then there was an episode where he was able to transform and helped the Autobots out in a battle. I think he was a black nissan sports car.

Can anyone help me out here?

This doesn't sound familiar. Do you know which series it was (G1, RiD, A/E/C, Animated)?

I don't remember anyone like that either. I'm about 90% certain there wasn't anyone like that in G1, Cybertron, or Animated. Can't really speak for any other series

The black nissan part of the original post makes me believe that you are thinking of Armada Wheeljack. Prior to the beginning of the show, he was an Autobot soldier who was left for dead by the other Autobots, but found by Megatron and, hence, switched sides to the Decepticons. During the show, he mended his relationships with the Autobots and rejoined their side. However, as far as I am aware, he was never unable to transform.

A3/Alpha Trion from the orginal The Transfromers cartoon series never transformed.

Beta-from The Transformers season 3 episode "Tommorow is a Long Time Coming" never transformed.

Those are the only two that I can think of.

That almost sounds like a... a Gobot, actually. I remember one of the Guardians was damaged and decided not to get his transformation devices repaired.

was he stuck in Robot or Vehicle mode? are you thinking of the G1 episode "The Autobot Run" Where the autobots were l;ocked in their alt-modes?
